Forums - Sony - My PS3 is dead...AGAIN!!

mirson, do you still keep your PS2?

i heard people are saying 60GB PS3 has the same laser diode for BD and DVD. playing PS2 games on your PS3 may potentially cut your PS3 life a bit shorter. but again, if you don't play PS2 games, what's the advantage of owning the 60GB version.... @_@

I traded it in to get $100 off. I play a lot of PS2 games on my PS3 and still have a bunch on my playlist. I heard the 80GB is reliable because of the software emulation, so I might sell my 60GB for it.

Mine is still working fine, but for the longest time I have been having controller issues where they wouldn't work unless I plugged them in via USB first.

Very annoying but manageable.

It is quite surprising that my 360 is the only one that has run flawless so far out of my 3 current gen machines.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I feel for you bro :( Mine is getting repaired now. I will hopefully get mine by the 10th July :( Luckily, I got a mate and been playing some Ghost Busters, but I want mine back. DQ8 is getting a good run thru atm. Anyways, I hope it's a speedy recover. 60 gigs are really having the problems :(

  Unleash The Beast!

End of 2011 Sales: Wii = 90mil, 360 = 61mil, PS3= 60mil

Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett, Michale Jackson, Billy Mays, my girlfriend's aunt, and your PS3.

Worst week ever.

My PS3 hasn't had any problems yet, but the whirring noise is starting to bother me now... And I really don't wanna play DQ8 over again. God I'm so scared.

Currently playing: Marvel vs. Capcom 3, League of Legends

That didn't work for me.

I'm glad I didn't buy a PS3 at launch now...

If you notice the fan speed is slowly getting louder and louder, a fair bet is that the PS3 is getting clogged with dust, which will eventually lead to overheating and lockups/Ylods. One thing you can do is turn off the PS3, and then switch it off with the rear switch. Then, press down on the eject and power buttons at the same time, and flick the rear power switch back to on. Keep holding down the eject and power buttons until you get a beep, and then a few seconds later, the fans will spin up to full speed in reverse (very loud, sounds like a hair dryer), this will last for around 15 seconds and then you'll get a double beep and it'll do to standby.

When I've tried it on mine I noticed a bit of dust get blown back out of the PS3, but my PS3 isn't very dusty anyway. Its worth a shot anyway, Sony wouldn't have programmed it in if it didn't do anything.
