Medium to high end sony's are excellent. The one you offer is an entry-line model so wouldn't bother. would also recommend panasonic and samsung like kowenicki sed, there just as good, and in some cases better than sony tv's

On these forums (and most others) most people will say "buy sony its the best" but the real question is how much do you want to spend for the quality. Obviously as seen in this thread we have the Vizio sucks or is good argument going.

What you need to do is watch multiple TV's in the same store off of the same feed all in 1080p. Go up to the TV and mess with the settings (switch 120hz on/off or whatever) and see which TV you personally like the best. You can switch the preset tv settings and find the one you like best for each TV. If you can't notice the difference between the $3000 Sony and the $1000 Vizio off of a true 1080p signal, then why waste the $2000? Sure, the true AV tech geeks have tools that allow them to push the TVs to the max and with hours of scrutinizing can tell the difference. But if you stare at the TVs with some high action movies for a few hours and can't tell the difference, or don't think the difference is worth the extra $$ then buy whichever one suits you best.

I'm a big proponent of Vizio because they sell a quality TV in a price range I want to spend. Yes, you can do better, but if you don't have the money than it is a great TV to purchase.

As for everything you asked about, you have to be careful. People measure contrast ratio differently and some companies take advantage of that and push out way better numbers compared to the competition while having worse performance.

As for refresh rate I don't really know anything about the 120Hz refresh, but I'm skeptical if you actually need it since no sources display 120Hz, but it can't hurt. I'd have to read up on it though.

As for 1080p, check what the native resolution of the TV is. If it is 1920x1080 than it is 1080p. If the native resolution is lower, than it is either a 1080i, or 720p TV. The TV you linked to is 1366 X 768p so it is a 720p TV like the one I own.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Look, what's happening with LCD TVs is called commoditization. It means TVs are getting increasingly closer in quality to each other, which is why the higher-end manufacturers are cutting prices all the time (such as Samsung, Sony and Panasonic).

Unless you are really demanding with picture quality, I'd go mostly by price. Of course if you find TVs which are close in price, you should go for the better brand with the better warranty (Samsung being the best these days from what I've seen, they have a 100% pixel warranty at least in some models... which means you don't need to settle for dead pixels).

If you want the best picture quality, then you have to do a lot of research and avsforum is the place to go.

Huh? U got a Blu-ray equipped PS3, and you're buying a lousy 720p 32inch TV!

Maybe you're on a low budget lol. But I would advice against this.

I my self have a 42" 1080p Panasonic Plasma HDtv, model: 42PZ800A, the image is beautiful and best of all it was cheap at the time I bought it. It cost $2300AU including delivery and 3 years extended warranty.

In any case I'd highly recommend a plasma screen from Panasonic, right now they have an even better model than what I have, just go to their site and find the model that suits your needs, and then shop around and haggle and see how far they can drop it, or at least what they can add to it.

As for burn in, it's not an issue any more, despite what people say, because all the newer sets have technologies put in place during design to avoid damage done by static pictures, in fact the only way you can burn an image in permanently is if you have a static picture on screen 24/7 for over a 2 week, and as a gamer that won't happen, but if your scared, just remember that watching ordinary TV will remove any perceivable image retention assuming there is any to begin with....to say the least, one really has to try burn an image into a Plasma screen cuz normal use won't do it....I know cuz I own and game on a plasma.

lol @ Vizio hate.

It's just that simple.

What is Vizio a kind of brand?

There are no Vizios sold in Europe (at least not in Scandinavia) so I reckon it's another manufactorer's renamed brand for the NA market?

The newer plasmas have no burn in they have PixelShift. And a Antiglare Filter so less reflections. Smearing movements ? Not on my TV. The Disadvantages of Plasma are down and the Advantages are unbetable. Everyone who has seen my new Plasma said there next Tv will be a Plasma. The Picture is so much better and the disadvantages are away. The reflection is only seen in direct Sunlight. And they are almost gone with Antiglare Filter. If Plasma then Panasonic. Fact is that with Plasma you can reach a really good Picturequality unseen on LCD TVs yet. Its just better for gaming. I had (have) both LCD TV and Plasma. And I never would change back. I thought the same way before i actually tested the new Panasonic with a PS3.

Plasma technology has changed. By the way there are LCDs out there with real Glas so they reflect Light in the same way as Plasma (without Antiglare Filter). I would bet on it that everyone who has seen my TV in Action would say that Plasma is way better for gaming I am absolutely sure about that. Alot of people just prefer LCD because its cheaper but its definetly not better for gaming.
