Forums - Gaming - Final Fantasy 13... Japanese voices DONE

One of the voice actresses for Final Fantasy XIII has confirmed that recording for the game wrapped this week on her online blog.

The actress writes about how the script of the game took a year to record but now the dub is finally finished.

A finished dub means all story elements are now set in stone and Square Enix translators can get down to the hard work of translating the game to English and finishing the English voice work which has already begun and was showcased at E3 2009.

All the elements are falling into place - FF13 is on track for release in Japan before the end of the year.

A whole year for the voice reading?................

The only reason I am shocked by this, is because in the WWE SvR series, recording takes one day per person.

Obviously, and RPG of this caliber will have WAY more in terms of speech and dialogue, so the two can't really compare.

Now that it has to go into English, expect another 7 months for that dubbing. It is taking the same amount of time for Arc Rise Fantasia.

the good thing it's we can play the japanese version and don't wait for probably dumbed down version.

with horrible dubbing.

A year to record... does that mean the game's delayed a year+?

My understanding is that Japanese voice work takes longer and is usually done in groups.  Basically, everyone has to get together and act out each scene, and often the script writers will be there to rewrite parts or use improv the actors come up with.  It's similar to the way the uncharted games have been done, if you've seen this video.

Western voice acting normally involves giving each actor the entire script and some time in the sound booth, and they basically go through and read all of their lines on their own.  One advantage is that doing things this way is a lot faster, and less expensive.  One disadvantage is that you get some occasionally incoherent acting in the dialog and group scenes.

A year for the voice acting to wrap up could mean composition as well! More reasonable would be hours of recording whenever the va department has a part of the game (incl. CG) set in stone, this is especially important if there is lip Synch.
