Forums - Nintendo - All consoles will be motion sensitive next gen

DKII said:
Well you're confusing motion sensing with the infrared pointer, which doesn't really have anything to do with motion sensing. But the pointer is the thing I like the most about the Wii, the motion sensing itself is kinda meh so far in most games.

I definitely agree about infrared pointing being the far bigger deal for video games than the motion sensing, but you can do pretty cool things with the motion sensing nonetheless.  Especially when you have a motion sensor in each hand (Godfather: Blackhand, boxing games, etc).

Infrared pointing can be used for almost everything.  That's why the Sixaxis is missing the most important control innovation.

Every next gen home systems will have a pointer + motion control. That's what the Wii is selling to casuals on: Controls that are easier to understand.

Dual Analog sticks seem easy because we've had about 10 years to learn how to use them. For newcomers this is a huge barrier. Meanwhile the Wiimote uses a real-world analog: TV remote. Everyone knows how to use a TV remote, so it's much easier for new people to play Wii games. This is a HUGE factor to the Wii's success.

All products follow the loop of Innovation, Imitation, and Saturation. Someone thinks up a new idea that greatly boosts sales. The competitors catch on and copy that feature as closely as possible. Then every product has it and is now considered standard.

Happened for the D-pad.
Happened for Shoulder Buttons.
Happened for Rumble.
Happened for Analog Sticks.

It will happen for Pointers and Motion Control.

There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.

While I agree with the overall idea behind the topic, I don't think they will copy Nintendo exactly. I am betting for MS and Sony to try to one up Nintendo with a different design, while I bet Nintendo will only do minor changes. Nin will improve the IR functionality and enhance the motion UI to permit more flexibility to devs. I also expect to see microphone capability.

I would love to have a small controller that is like a gun basically or similar to wiimote that can accurately detect where I'm pointing and has enough buttons on it to be useful. The wiimote/nunchuck is a great FPS combo with movement on the left and pointing/shooting/reloading and such on the right. Playing RE4 on the cube and then on the Wii really illustrates how much better the controls can be on a console. Unlike others, I'm not a big fan of the mouse/keyboard combo, either...

I would be blown away if MS doesn't have a game they release along with a wii-mote type controller THIS GEN on the 360...

Is analogue actually spelt 'analog' in the English language (thus i am spelling it incorrectly) or is it just an Americanism?

^ No one cares what spelling you use, as long as it isn't "$NAL))GuE!!."

I care, i'm just asking and don't have a dictionary handy, it's hard to trust internet dictionaries because most of the internet is American anyway.
