Every next gen home systems will have a pointer + motion control. That's what the Wii is selling to casuals on: Controls that are easier to understand.

Dual Analog sticks seem easy because we've had about 10 years to learn how to use them. For newcomers this is a huge barrier. Meanwhile the Wiimote uses a real-world analog: TV remote. Everyone knows how to use a TV remote, so it's much easier for new people to play Wii games. This is a HUGE factor to the Wii's success.

All products follow the loop of Innovation, Imitation, and Saturation. Someone thinks up a new idea that greatly boosts sales. The competitors catch on and copy that feature as closely as possible. Then every product has it and is now considered standard.

Happened for the D-pad.
Happened for Shoulder Buttons.
Happened for Rumble.
Happened for Analog Sticks.
