Forums - Gaming - Greatest RPG Series Of All Time

I'll say it again, I have no quarrels with SMT, the persona series are between the best and brightest of all RPG's, Nocturnal as well. But DDS to me, felt really bland and simplistic. The story was really good, but everything else wasn't, heck, even Granstream Saga had gameplay that enthralled me more than the gameplay in DDS, because to me DDS felt like just another turn based RPG, it didn't have anything to make it stand out, like Persona and Nocturnal have.
That's why to me, nowadays, SMT is my 5th most liked saga in RPG's (because this list didn't have Panzer Dragoon Saga, the Illusion/terranigma saga and Lufia).

You've just proven my point that people just voted for what is their opinion of RPG's now, and not in what those sagas have given to RPG's throughout history. You can disagree all that you like, but SMT wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for FF

Heck FF wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for DQ, and see what happened to it.

DDS was bland but you liked Nocturne?

That's a paradox, because they are quite similar... minus fusion+demon negotiation.

I didn't like the Combo system and the Skill system was very simplistic

@zexen

its FIFTH.....thats even worse cus FFV is the least popular FF game ever!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Yeh Final Fantasy deserved first or atleast second, not fifth.

If it wasn't for FFVII JRPGs wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as it is now in the West.

Did you play both games?  You need to play both to appreciate that they have a great story...  The first game doesn't stand up by itself IMO...

           Now Playing!

^ This is you!

Big deal. I only rate series for their overall quality, not for influence. I don't consider Pong to be the best series of all time. For me, Suikodens are better than FFs, so Suikoden > FF. FF is an excellent series. That's why I said it deserves 3rd

The Pokémon franchise has sold well over 100 million copies total and got eliminated pretty early. World of Warcraft has 10 million plus subscribers a month has become extremely well known, yet was eliminated near the beginning. Dragon Quest is more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan and was eliminated third. Disgaea is awesome. It's pretty obvious this list only reflects how people here feel about these series, and even then, it's not that accurate given how some people probably voted a lot more than others.

Really, though, Pokémon should be number one and then Suikoden and then SMT and then NiGHTS into Dreams (for being so cool it even gets in the top 5 lists outside of its genre). Also Super Mario RPG.

@silentmac

Yes i've got both games and played them, I just couldn't get enthralled to them like I felt playing any Persona or Nocturnal, but, I say it once again, it was not because of the story, which was really good, but because of the playability. It was a simplified version of Nocturnal with a few things mixed up which didn't add anything good.
That doesn't make the SMT saga any less good, because Persona and Nocturnal are hellishly good (even though I felt kinda sad that they dumbed down Persona 4, i really liked the harder challenge of Persona 3).

You hit the bullseye right there. That's why i didn't bother voting... well that and the series i was going to vote for were long gone when i arrived.

How technical is your game?
