Forums - Nintendo - DO buy Grand Slam Tennis!

Interestingly - Metacritic reviews have now lifted GST's score up while dropping VT2009's.

So they now stand at

GST - 77
VT2009 - 76

Go buy it !

Good to know, I've been debating on getting this game for a while now. I've recently become a really big Tennis fan, often playing for 2-3 hours everyday.

My copy should be coming today - so a few things to iron out:

-I Should start on easy

-Should I start playing with the nunchuk or get used to (losing with...) Wiimote+ M+ first, then add the nunchuk, as starting with it would be too confusing?

- Steer well clear of online until I've had some offline wins

Right? I'm a bit nervous that something I spent £40 on is going to whip my arse every which way to be honest.

when u start playing without the nunchuck and want to train with the ball machine make sure that u set the ballmachne to mixed shots ( alternates fore and backhand balls) and not one of them alone, coz ur character tends to change his position from fore to backhand on its own even tho the ball comes to the opposite side which can mess up ur play.

so if u dont want to get frustrated start using the nunchuck early on but ur first few games u can play without nunchuck.

Improvements are caused by people who complain

I seroisuly want this game, but money says NO :P. Waiting for the Conduit First

I think more relevant than the metascore is the fact that IGN, Eurogamer, and Official Nintendo Magazine all finger GST as the superior game of tennis. I haven't seen a single source review both games and conclude that VT was better. I'd say the only reason to pick it up is if you want to either play the field or save ten bucks.

This is definitely a game that requires patience and concentration.
Initially i was a little hesitant, as the controls are not as intuitive as i expected, but really have to be learnt.
However, I have really learnt to love this game, but then again i am a fan of tennis, and Wii Sports Tennis just really did not have the necessary depth. You really also notice your improvement. At first, i could barely scrape a point on easy mode (nothing easy about it). But now, i can win a game or two of difficult mode.
Online is brilliant though, except expect to get your butt whooped many many times.

Man, this game is hard. Came in the post an hour ago, I can't do it at all! I'm playing without the nunchuk for the moment while I get used to it, but the player movement isn't the problem 9 times out of 10 - it's me.

Ive now played and lost 20 straight matches, without winning even a single set. Gah. I can't do this even a little bit. Its dragging my whole mood down. Connecting the nunchuk is a bad idea too- at least I go in the right direction without it! With it, I end up being indecisive or concentrating too much on movement and forgetting to swing properly, resulting in a poor shot.

One thing Ive found is that effort helps, putting in a lot of effort to hurl yourself through the shot gives a slightly better chance of winning the point, but still slim. Also, I'm so inaccurate. I'm trying my best but the biggest problem is getting OUT from the tram lines all the time.

I really, really can't do this and right now. Ive lost 20 offline matches! I agree with 'DO NOT buy Grand Slam Tennis'.

@Wiped: Patience my friend, once things click and you begin to play the shots you want, winning a point or a match becomes so satisfying.

Yesterday, I started to play the career mode, I choose to play on normal and things are going nicely up to now. I won a exhibition match against a two star player, played against Venus Williams to gain an ability. I got crushed 1-3 but still got the ability because this one was free. I then played a doubles match where net points were worth double. My last pre-tournament match was against Kei Nishikori who I beat 3-0, thanks in part to my Venus Williams serve.

Now, I'm off to the Australian Open, can't wait to see how I'll do.

Training is needed Wiped, you'll be better over time as long as you keep trainning.

And read your opponents profile before enter the match and strike at his weakness will help you a lot too.

I have 4-5 wins in Grand Slam normal mode after around 13-14 losses.

Like a real sports, trainning is the key to winning.:D
