Forums - Sony - What's sixaxis like for driving games?

The few minutes I used it in motor storm I did rather badly, but I always do badly at driving games on analog until I get the hang of the precise sensitivity of the controls. Every game seems to have slightly different responses to analog steering. So I thought it might be same for sixaxis steering.

If you want a game that really utilises Sixaxis well, get Flower. Almost entirely controlled with tilt. To a lesser extent, Tools of Destruction uses it in minigames and to control tornadoes.

I'll be getting Tools of destruction all right. I'll get Flower too, it sounds so peaceful.

it's terribad for driving games

its like a steering wheel... it has a long curve of learning... a friend of mine suck at race games against me but is ex wife gave him a wheel... now that he spends lots of time with it he manages to give me lots of dust because i dont have one ... if you get the patience to learn it, it might give you some great gaming experience but it is hard to get the same precision of the thumb stick... also you may injure you wrist if you are too enthusiastic ...

For cars, it is almost impossible. I've tried it in MotorStorm and WipEout HD, and I just cannot use it. You keep madly swinging your hands around, it's nowhere near precise enough.

I prefer analog.

It works really well in Flower, though.

Its tilting not swinging thats your problem

Thanks for all the comments. I guess I'll have to get a game or twp (off PSN initially I suppose) and see whether I can get the hang of it. I like the concept of motion controls, so I'd hope to get some enjoyment out of the reality.

Could I just add: when you first try to use it, you will suck hard. Most people give up after that.

If you try a little more though, you can get the hang of them. You learn that you're not meant to swing the controller around dramatically (which most people do at first), but just tilt them slightly.

They're great fun in Motorstorm with the first person view enabled.

If you can cough up the cash though, a proper steering wheel is even better. (And yes, takes just as long to get the hang of.)
