Forums - Sales - Activision trying to find out how fast they can kill Guitar Hero franchise?

While I understand your point, I honestly doubt the average purchaser of this game is going to be aware of Jean's status during the civil war storyline.

If an exception can be made for Hulk, I do not see why an exception cannot be made for any of the other characters. I want to purchase this game, but the character roster seems 'same old' and blah to me thus far. And Thanos was playable in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I am sure he was probably one of the most powerful characters on the roster, but it worked. And wasn't Silver Surfer unlockable in the previous installment?

It would make me feel better if you could somehow get the characters I mentioned in the game, which I doubt. Thanx though.

I don't think she was omitted because of the average customer. I think the same reason they went with an actual comic book storyline is the same reason why they're trying to keep the roster fairly accurate, to get the informed Marvel reader to buy. The reason the Hulk is in the game is to get that average person to buy. He's a necessary character to offer, no matter his role or non-role in the storyline. Also remember the average customer they're trying to get is the Marvel movie watcher, and Jean's dead in the movies also.

Yeah, the Surfer is in the last game, and he feels severely underpowered. I don't use him because it feels silly not having his real power at hand.

Regarding Thanos in the X-Men fighting games, he was severely underpowered also, and to boot I believe he was wearing the Infinity Gauntlet. It just seems ridiculous to me. They might as well add an 8 foot Galactus if they're going to break the balance that much.

You think Hulk is necessary? I loved the recent interpretation of the Hulk (The Incredible Hulk movie) but it did not perform all that great at the box office. I can see if you mentioned Wolverine, Storm, or Iron Man as being necessary, but not understanding the Hulk reference in term of the average consumer.

And I cannot see the average consumer thinking..."Jean is dead in the movies, why is she in the videogame?"...Hell, I'm a fan of comics and the franchise as a whole and I wouldn't even think that. I would like to see more variety in the roster.

And it's a video game. Doctor Strange seemed out of place in the last game, but I was just happy to be able to play him. I really do not mind characters being depowered for purposes of the videogame. It's just fun to be able to play in the shoes of some of my favorite Marvel characters.

Number of console Guitar Hero games per year:

2005 - 1 game

2006 - 1 game

2007 - 2 games

2008 - 2 games

2009 - 5 games

Why so many GH games in 2009? How long can they continue milking the franchise before people start getting desensitized to the Guitar Hero name?

I'm also wondering how many GH games we'll see next year...

Stupid activision can't do anything properly. If they made 3 games in 2008 it would be nice X[n]=X[n-1]+X[n-2] mathematical string for next years :D

Meh World Tour was a flop to me. Probably never buying a Guitar Hero game again.
GHIII is da best !

Activision's resources would have better been served getting a better roster for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2!

Where the hell is my Jean Grey, Apocalypse, and Thanos as playable characters?

I just can't seem to find an interest in GH or RB or any of the likes.

M:UA2 takes place during the Marvel storyline "Civil War". None of the three characters you're requesting are involved in that storyline. On top of that, Jean Grey has been dead for years.

Plus... Thanos as a playable character?  I mean... he'd make the Hulk look silly.

Well Rock Band isn't milked as much.

The Guitar Hero franchise died the day Rock Band came out.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

You do your team a great dis-service by not using him then. He was amazingly over-powered in the game. It is kinda ridiculous how powerful they made him all things considered. Honestly the game has never had anything resembling character balance in the past, so why bother adding it going forward? At least then there will be something to distract the player from the god awful storyline they will have to suffer through.

The story and its execution with these games have always been lacking, but I just like to play as my favorite Marvel characters. And I agree with your post.
