Forums - Sony - Sony Spills More ( PS3 Motion Controller ) Details To Devs

nice glad to see its still on track for a spring 2010 release date

I really hope Sony is serious about this. They have to get software behind it to drive sales, and I think they have to be smarter about it then Nintendo. If Sony can bust out major titles like Resistance 3, and Motorstorm 3 with motion and 3d head tracking I think they will be able to give the hardcore the experiance they expect from motion.

I am already glad to see them attacking the NATAL stuff right off the bat. They have had every single bit of tech shown by MS with project natal since late 2004. If they have ben massing with that stuff since PS3 and PS EYE launched they should be very close to being able to send out facial, and voice recognition tech to every PS3 via firmware. Next spring Sony could do a complete overhaul of PS3, and steal all of natals thunder months before it arrives.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Why would they give it a firmware when it can already do it ?

the ps eye has a 4 point microphone with noise cancellation allowing for voice recognition from up to 4 people at all given times.

It has facial recognition and headtracking too. Sony showed this off at gdc. (not this one, but one a few years back.)

Anyways I really hope they're gonna make it 2 wands per person >_>

interesting, i just hope that games that require their motion controler, also gives ppl the option of using a dualshock 3 instead.

I guess you're thinking of Lair, which should have supported Dualshock, but games made fully to the motion controllers (think a Wii Sports clone) should stick to the motion controllers only.  If they game is really designed right it would be worse on the motion controllers.

Controls wasn't one of lairs major problems.. there were a few annoyances but controls were pretty nice.. it was everything else that was a disaster. The fucked up changes in difficulty from 1 level to another, the terrible story terribly executed with some horrid  cutscenes containing awful dialogue from poorly performing actors.. Not to mention the frame rate issues.

The controls did have 1 flaw though. You couldn't properly stop your dragon which was freaking annoying :p

And this has a date, unlike NATAL. If they can make good games for this on par with their current offerings like Uncharted, it could be great. IF the games are good. All about the games, motion control is nothing if the games are suxors.

I find it really hard to take the Spring 2010 date seriously based on their E3 showing.  If they're that close why the rough hardware and the complete lack of commercial-quality games to demo on it?  They would have to have the hardware finalized months before it ever hit stores.  More than likely most of the product's development would have to be done by the end of this year.  Does it really seem to anyone that Sony is that close to being ready with this product?

this all brings many new possibilities to the PS3. I hope it does not cost an absurd amount of money when it comes to the UK. I could consider buying it if there is enough value and support in with this controller.

The motion controllers weren't terrible on Lair, but they weren't better than using sticks, etc. either - in fact comparing both I'd say it controls fractionally better with Dualshock.

The reason, the games other flaws you point out aside, that the controls were so badly mauled, I believe, was because you could sense it would probably control just that bit better with normal controls, and if was frustrating that (initially) the choice was denied you.

I find it interesting how badly the control choice was savaged, and feel it serves as a warning for both Sony and MS that simply using motion controls exclusively to push the control scheme over what works better is not the best approach.

Motion controls are fine, but they are just an option, not automatically superior for everything.  What I want to see for both Sony's 'wands' and Natal is new titles, new approaches that exploit the motion controls properly, as many Wii titles have, rather than try and apply them where they don't fit.

That's why I expect titles that don't use motion control at all, some that use them as minor enhancements or options, and titles that fully exploit them.
