I think that save systems that allow you to save whenever you want would take away some of the difficulty and tension that comes from some JRPG battle systems. The fact that Persona 3 only lets you save at certain points means you have to be careful and figure out whether you have the resources to make it to the next checkpoint. I think I prefer it that way.

What if you have something important to do and you have to leave, but you want to save immediately, without being near the check point? A save is a save.

then you leave the dungeon instantly and save.  You weren't able to make it far enough up the tower to save inside it, but you can always leave the tower and save whenever you want.

Not that easy. Persona you have to run around and look for those small teleport pad things and in other games you simply cant do that unless you back track like crazy.

But there are items to instantly escape.  If you really have to go there's a way, just going to cost a bit.

That sucks major ass. How are people supposed to progress in the game? I swear this mainly happens in linear games.

You are really on a JRPG tyrade lately without having played many at all.

You keep the levels you gained so it will be easier the next time you enter the tower, you also go back to the tower on the last floor you were able to save on, usually happen every ten floors if I remember correctly, and you can blow through the first few floors on your way back to where you were since you have already gotten the experience you need.  It isn't nearly as difficult as you seem to want to think.

Hold the hell on........I made a thread about "why JRPG's are getting too easy", and this was a reason and everybody disagreed.......now you agree??, but honesty you just want to babied, games cant always be a cake walk and punish you...Save often, plan a strategy and dont die

Nah, if anything, I think there are too many save points in RPGs nowadays. Let's go back to the old days. In FF1, you can save on the overworld... IF you use a tent. Dragon Quest is even more brutal- the first one has 1 save point, and all the others are save in most towns only. There is none of this dungeon saving crap. So you got your ass handed to you by the boss on the 6th floor? You're going all the way back to town, and you're going to like it. Oh, and that'll be half your gold, please.

-On a quest for the truly perfect game; I don't think it exists...

It can be annoying in persona 3.. but only at full moons I think.. (horrible memories about one in certain -.-)

But I do think it adds to the difficulty of the game that you can't just save all the time. Think I like it better that way most of the times tbh.

where were you guys at??? http://vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=73137

I love the save system. If you don't want to die, suck less. =)

Honestly, I prefer that there be actual consequences for dying.
