Forums - Sony - MGS 4 vs MGS:Rising

a lot of this crap is your usual PR talk that extreme DELUSIONAL fanboys use to justify their choice and it's on all sides not just Sony.

bottom line don't take it so seriously.

Funny you should say that, considering that there's also the possibility that it was the usual PR talk that said that "MGS4 isn't possible on the 360" and that it was used by PS3 fanboys as reasoning as to why the game didn't appear on the 360.

I agree though, bottom line don't take it so seriously (both PR statements are BS in my opinion)

I'm not sure if MGS4 would have been possible on 360. Due to its heavy optimization for PS3, it is possible it would not have been possible on 360. However, due to the fact that Rising will use an entirely new engine, it will be possible on 360. That's because the new engine will be much different from the one used in MGS4... Which reminds me that maybe MGS4 really is not possible on 360: Why else would they make a new engine?

To put it short, and probably over-simplified: MGS4 is not possible on 360, Rising is because it's different (but not necessarily worse, graphics-wise at least).

MGS4 = optimized for PS3. MGS:R = optimized with multiplatform in mind.

And MGS4 not being possible on the 360 wasn't from a purely graphical standpoint. I think Gears 2 looked better than MGS4, so it's not the graphics department. It was the AI, the audio, MGO, and of course the coding that made it not possible on the 360.

They will never arrive on HDDVD even when the format was a live and kicking no plans were ever put forward to use that medium to deliver a game in fact they always said no when pressed.

No, if this games needs space it will be disk space on the Hard Drive. This game may have a requirement that it can only run on X or Y machine but in all honesty I suspect the space will prove to be a red herring.

I seriously doubt MGS4 would be impossible on 360. MGS4 isn't close to being one of the most impressive games graphically on PS3. It runs at a sub HD Resolution (1024x768) and has frame that averages in the high 20s. If any other PS3 game had the same issues, fans would be complaining about how the game isn't optimized for PS3 and how games like Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Resistance, KZ2, etc. run in a true HD resolution, with a higher frame, and no install.

Why MGS4 gets touted as some achievement in PS3 development is beyond me. Given the resolutions, framerate, and installs. It is not deserving of the technical praise it receives. Especially when you look at what other developers have done with their PS3 exclusives.

who the hell said MGS4 couldn't run on the 360? People just said it would take a few DVD's cause its 50 gigs.

It's not possible because the game wasn't optimized for multi-discs. There isnt a chance in hell it could possibly run on the 360 with one disc.

Tbh with the need to install to hard drive it did not sound like it was particularly optimised for one disc either.

It not like MGS4 had any big breaks in the story that would make a great point for a disc change /sarcasm.

Kojima - Porting MGS4 to 360 would be difficult because the game was developed and optimized for the PS3.

MGS:R - From what I understand is using a new engine built from scratch.

This leads me to assume that it's just easier to make a new engine for PS3/360/PC than to rework an engine made specifically for the PS3 to work on the 360, or the other way around.
