Forums - Sales - Wii60 Gap CLOSING in - People FINALLY going for Cheapest Option?

All I know is that next year, the wii has so many nice hardcore games coming, along with its never ending list of must-buy casual games.Next year,Natal will probably lead to the 360 having less hardcore releases than it usually does.I can see Natal selling hardcore games as HD fans might want to try their hands on HD motion FPSes(for example) but I can't see it selling casual games the way the wii does.Because of the price. Most casuals like things cheap, they might not want to buy a 360(except maybe an arcade) + Natal just to play 2 casual games their dieing for.
On the other hand,a wii + M+ is cheaper, especially since Nintendo likes to bundle its add-ons with games.Maybe MS can try doing that....
I really think that Q4 this year and Q1 next year are going to drive wii sales(SW more than HW,but HW as well) to those insane weekly numbers we used to see.

I think sales of video game consoles in general are declining in a climate where america is hit the hardest.

In other words no company is completely immune to the current crysis..

So that basicly means that.. Less people are buying consoles. It's not like the 360 is up either.

Sorry about this. I just found it too amusing to pass up. You know you game a lot when you mispell 'crisis' with that spelling.

@ OP: As others have said, I think it's due to the current state of affairs in NA and around the world. I think it's that the Wii has fallen more than the 360 rising. Kudos to all 3 for staying this strong in such hard times and still offering every consumer base with great stuff both now and in the future.

I was expecting most, if not all, major publishers to go the way of Activision and reuse old tech and re-release the same games with new wrappings. But we're still getting the latest and greatest from the industry, seeing what E3 had in store.

LOL whoops XD

Check out my game about moles ^

Wii is doomed despite breaking some sort of sales record last month.

Do people forget how great the Wii does during Christmas? Lets bear in mind its a console kids love and kids get their big gifts on Christmas.

If wii is doomed, what does that make the 360 and PS3 that still sell less. It's moot how poorly (relatively to past months) the wii is selling, as long as it continues to sell the most of the 3 consoles.

Wii sales are slowly dieing in USA

the reason is probably the lack of megaton releases in 2nd half 2008/1st half 2009

Animal Crossing could have be one, but they preferred copy-paste from older versions somehow, which had great sales but not 10m

Wii Music is awesome, but not megaton, can't replace normal music instruments like Wii Fit can replace gym etc....

i guess Wii Sports Resort, Mario Galaxy 2, New Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Fit plus, Zelda Wii are all megatons which will bring the Wii back at 1st half of 2008 levels

MH3 and DQX will do a good job in Japan

Wii are gonna be back!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I actually think another system is causing a dip in Wii sales -- but it isn't the 360 (or PS3).

The DSi is IMO.

March 2009 Hardware NPD:

March 2009:
Nintendo Wii – 601,000
Nintendo DS - 563,000

April 2009: (DSi launch)
Nintendo DS - 1.04M
Wii - 340K

May 2009:
Wii 289.5K
Nintendo DS 633.5K

I mean it's a pretty strange coincidence that Wii sales go down pretty sharply after the DSi launch? Now I know some people will say well one's a portable the other is a console .... but with a chunk of this new casual audience, the only alternative a lot of these consumers look at to Wii is actually the DS -- not the 360 or PS3. It's the only other machine hitting those same demographics, and Nintendo has marketed the DSi *a lot* since launch with those face-mapping commercials and the Beyonce/Rhythm Heaven spots.

We'll see if Wii Sports Resort will get excitement back with the Wii.

Wait until *insert savior name* and the Wii will be saved.
