^ In this particular case i would argue the access to guns was one of the primary reasons why he was so easily capable of murder in the first place. But this issue NEVER seems to matter in the US, constitutional bullshit is irrellivant when this happens.

How does that change anything? Access to a deadlier weapon decreases accountability? While I agree that the US needs gun control laws strengthened by an order of magnitude, I don't think the kid is any less responsible for his actions.

So, this is totally not the place to argue this, but bullshit. People are really, really easy to kill. You can push them down a flight of stairs. You can kill 'em with a pillow. Even a 5-year-old-girl, if properly motivated, could end a human life with a kitchen knife. People just die easy. It's not gun's fault.

Also, this shouldn't be funny, but according to Wikipedia, his father, a preacher, strictly forbid his son from buying the devilish game Halo 3. His father also bought the handgun used in the murder. So fake weapons = the devil, real weapons = awesome.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Acolyte of Disruption

One question has not been asked yet - does he get to bring his xbox to jail?

would access or no access to guns really change what happens? if he was honestly going to do what he did, whats to stop him from going into the kitchen and grab a knife? sure, a knife would've made it more difficult but the fact that he killed his mother and then tried to kill his father means that there was sufficient intent so that he was going to attempt to do it either way. i dont think gun control was the problem here, the problem was that this child (at the time, at least) had problems, and this sentence is just that, about keeping him of the streets.

now, if you want to argue that he'd be better placed in a mental institution for a couple of years as opposed to 23 years in jail is a different story, and probably the better option.

as for the gun control issue, might i forward you to an episode of one of my favorate shows?

^penn and tellers' Bullshit, the gun control episode. and it makes valid points - keepin in mind they are biased.

um..stuff

I can't believe people are feeling sorry for this guy. He needs help? The guy killed his MOM over Halo 3 and attempted to kill his dad. This guy should've gotten life. Why let him out in 23 years? The gun is a non-issue. He could've done the same with a knife.

and stuff like this won't bring the violent games ban to america like it has germany? Plus Obama just yesterday told kids to get off video games and get outside! I think banning violent video games is coming sooner than you think in the US

23 years?! What the fuck?!

Okay sure, the guy needs a punishment, but come on!

I don't know; 23 years for a third-degree murder and a third-degree attempted murder seems pretty light to me. Not inappropriately so, but about right.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Well he's 17 now so when he did this he'd have been about 15. He was definately old enough to know what he was doing. I say he deserves every day of this sentence. He killed his mother for sh*t sakes and tried to kill his father.

Good fucking riddance.

It's people like HIM that give all gamers a bad name.

Should have gotten life (only because he was 15 or 16). If he was 17 when it happened he should have gotten the chair.
