So, this is totally not the place to argue this, but bullshit. People are really, really easy to kill. You can push them down a flight of stairs. You can kill 'em with a pillow. Even a 5-year-old-girl, if properly motivated, could end a human life with a kitchen knife. People just die easy. It's not gun's fault.
Also, this shouldn't be funny, but according to Wikipedia, his father, a preacher, strictly forbid his son from buying the devilish game Halo 3. His father also bought the handgun used in the murder. So fake weapons = the devil, real weapons = awesome.
