Forums - Nintendo - Why do I have a ? channel in my Wii

I found this in another forum:

The Wii console can detect unnecessary files that may be saved on the system. When this happens, these files are displayed as a question mark (or marks) in the Data Management screen of the Wii System Settings, or in the Wii Channels menu. Deleting these files will remove the question mark(s). There are no harmful effects caused by deleting them.

Straight from Nintendo

I couldn't find anything from Nintendo on that, so I don't know how accurate it is but I have seen that response before.

^what would those unnecessary files be?

i can't get a metroid channel (in UK) but i thought as the picture Fazz posted looked like spanish that he lived in Eu, but from clicking the profile i learn he is in Mexico....maybe this is just an American thing to do with the Metroid update....could there have been an "unnecessary file" in the Metroid update.

My guess is that Fazz & Gorgepir downloaded some channel, used it, and then deleted it. And it left "unnecessary files" ie saves or something like that behind. Or maybe an incomplete download. Fazz, Gorgepir, do either of those sound familiar?

hmmm an incomplete download?
I don't think so. At least I don't remember doing an incomplete download.
It happened after I downloaded the lost levels for mario.
Anyways, thanks anyway.
I guess maybe there was a problem with a download or something.
You guys really helped.
I was hoping for a metroid channel or something like that though :)

This came with the 3.0 update. Not many people got it. Nintendo said that deleting it would have no negative effects. So delete it.
