no I think he means games like God of War 3 and such...

"I think our [motion] controller can be used with every game that’s on the system now" <<

That's what we call a lie.  If they make updates for Super Rub a Dub and Calling All Cars that allow you to play with dual Wiimotes and a PS Eye, I'll eat my house.

Um....we are going to need to see a video of that...and also, what part of the house would you prefer?

On a serious note, they could do what Nintendo is doing and redo a couple of games but with motion controls....it all depends, of course, on how marketable it is and that might take a couple of years in the future...

i suppose it'll be like using a 5 button mouse for a game that only needs two.
The backwards compatibility doesn't necessarily mean the older games would need to be patched, just that the motion controls will work with them imo.

Yeah, it's not like the input method is a critical part of the game's design. Just tack that shit on.

All i ask is that i can aim with a reticule in RE5 and MGS4 with the PSwands like the wiimote's pointer and i will trade in my wii for a second PS3 for my bro! Man I can't wait to see what happens!

i think it can easily be done with  downloadable patches.

and i like how he said "The Wii Controller" haha, no named controller must be named.

lol !

Anyways I said this right when they announced it, that what they need to do is just give players the option to use it with all of their games. That way it'll work and have a huge library from the get go (ofcourse i was expecting it to be future games only.)

So they'd implement 2 control schemes into each of their games. Sounds like they might take it a step further though.

Check out my game about moles ^

Easy to do downloadable patches for games that already use sixaxis for some/all gameplay. A little less easy for games using traditional control.

Reading between the spin what Tretton is attempting to say, while being totally overblown about it, is that he reckons the PS3 motion wand can be used in any type of game you care to imagine. I.e. all the existing games could be controlled using the wand. Whether any third party game company would devote developer time to programming the necessary patches is the question. The answer is: show me the money. Where is the income going to come from for those devs to bring profits for money they spend on doing a b/c patch? Will devs get a cut of the profits from each wand sold as an inducement? I don't think the wand would make enough money to be doling it out to each developer who weaves some b/c magic.

1st party devs may be forced into doing b/c patches, just to show it can be done, and to generate some momentum for adopting the motion wand by both consumer and developers. Would you buy the wand in order to play KZ2 with it? I guess some people might. I'd be more inclined to buy the wand in order to play KZ3 with it.

Think of the Wii's Virtual Console, not all those games are motion controlled, but they still work with a Wiimote, don't they?
The Sony Purple phallus has buttons as demonstrated; why can't they have two parts - one in each hand with all the buttoney goodness? like the nunchuck?

The one to suffer the most with backwards compatibility would be Natal. why? no buttons.

I'm sure some older games will have it added just like some older games got trophies added but probably not as many games will get the controls as the enthusiasts would like.

Yeah, I suspect he just means that the games will work with the controller (meaning the buttons on it)... not that all of those games will retroactively use motion control.

@ axumblade - So then the PSmote is confirmed to have 2 analogue sticks, a d pad, 4 trigger buttons, x, O
