Prototype, more than any other current game, seems to be the main competition for Infamous.
Fair amount of similarities too; super powered anti-hero, post apocalypstic environment, comic book style story telling, free roam open world, high mobility game play mechanics. Even the character designs are pretty similar, which had me thinking that there are only so many character designs that can be done for a semi-serious game without appearing either too over the top or periodic.
There should be a split between these games in terms of genre sales, with the better of the two eventually picking up more residual sales (at least on the PS3) over time.
Infamous really shouldn't get a "free ride" from PS3 owners simply because it's a platform exclusive; they will be choosing between one or the other in most cases. But they could pick up if Prototype disappoints via word of mouth, otherwise the sales will probably remain split (reduced for both).
