Forums - Sony - So compared to other PS1 Final Fantasy's how does FFIX compare?

Wait a second, what exactly do you mean by slow?

Storywise? Or overall gameplay?

Gameplay of course.

Well, it's ATB system is also faster than VI, VII, and VIII as well.

FFIX is the best entry in the series on PS1 in my opinion. It got back to what the series was known for previously. I'm not much of a fan of either FFVII or FFVIII. I'll list my favorite Final Fantasy titles for each console to give you an idea of the type of FF game I prefer.

Favorite Final Fantasy's by console.

NES: FFIII
SNES: FFIV
PS1: FFIX
PS2: FFX

RPG's, point and click adventures, and other games like those are the lucky few where gameplay isn't the most important thing.  Good gameplay is a great bonus but the most important thing of games like these are the story, characters, and music.

FFIX does great on all three of those fronts.

A little bit tangent, but FFVI is my favorite game ever and I freely admit it has terrible and broken gameplay.

I agree. I absolutely love Final Fantasy IX.

It is honestly one of the best games I've ever played. Playing through it will be extremely fun for you trust me.

I'll be honest when I played it I couldn't get into it... But I may give it another try sometime soon.

I am playing 8 right now. I forgot how much I like this one. They really switched things up and came up with an interesting design. When I am done I will start up 9; I can't wait.
