Forums - Sales - Sales analysis and discussion, can the PSP outsell the GBA?

I would like to discuss the possible LTD sales of the PSP, I'm just gonna use official shipped numbers from the manufacturer in this thread, with that said, we know that it has sold 50 million units as of January 2009 and the GBA is at 81.47 million according to the latest numbers. So the PSP would need to sell an additional 31.5 million units in order to pass the GBA.

Now, the PSP has been revived, but price is still a major issue, had Sony priced the GO at $199 and dropped the 3000 to $139, then I would have no doubt that it would outsell the GBA, but as it is, I think it will be tough, they sold 14 million PSPs last FY and are estimating 14 or 15 million this year. so that leaves another 16 or 17 million, I think we need the PSP GO 2000 with touch screen functionality, otherwise it won't  outsell the GBA, it'll be close though....

It has a shot at it... if Sony can ship 65 million PSPs untill the end of the year it has a clear shot at 75-80 million, and if the GOs price will drop in '10 it has a pretty decent shot to pass the GBAs LT sales... now that would be amazing ;)

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Nah, I doubt it.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

it could, but there is a very low possibility.

Selling at its current rate (100k a week), it would take about 350 weeks. Or, in other words, 7 years. I guess anything is possible.

I think it has a shot.

This year is going to be the best year the PSP software-wise. Gran Turismo is coming out in October and I believe that will move plenty of PSP's.

Like Montana pointed out, at its current slaes rate, it'll be a very, very long time before it reaches the GBA

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Well if the PSP sells the same 5 years from now that it sells right now, you might have a point. Otherwise, LOL at you.

Then the question is: how long expects Sony the Psp to last. Has it extended it's life with the GO?
