Forums - Nintendo - Sony leader says Mario franchise far more superior than the Zelda Franchise

Zelda is good, but is far, far away from being Nintendo's most important franchise. First, it comes Mario with 200 million+ game copies, second is Pokémon with 185 million+ game copies sold. While Zelda has sold little more than 52 million copies.

Once again: Zelda is a great franchise, but it'll never be Nintendo's main poject.

Simple. What happened this E3.

Action: Two Mario games were shown in video form and one was playable.
Response: People happy, thought it was really awesome and look forward to them.

Action: One hand drawn image of a Zelda for Wii was shown.
Response: Internet blew up with speculation and constant discussion far outweighing the Mario topics.

Mario is Nintendo's mascot and always has great main games. However, Zelda is a more core-centric game and pulls in gamers of all avenues. Zelda is just one of the best and most respected IPs in existance.

There is a reason Zelda:OOT is the highest ranked game on metacritic for over 10 years, regardless of how great Mario64, SMB3, or SMG were, Zelda is just a better overall franchise.

i cannot tell since, Twilight Princess was also GC game

but until now, Mario is far bigger

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

At last, Sony speak some truth about Nintendo.

LOL "Sony Leader" = Sony fan that is "in charge" of a bunch of Sony fans

The people at Sony haven't said anything.

Anyway, it's not untrue. Mario always was more popular than Zelda. Quality-wise is another discussion.

Different people have different tastes. Mario is an icon for the masses but the Link/Zelda series has always been a gamers series.

Mike from Morgantown

By the way, I didn't see anyone from Sony saying this -- only a forum poster -- so the OP title was misleading. (I really don't care who declares themselves what. I came into this thread looking to see a comment from SCE or SCEA, not from Megaman2).

mario is also a gamers series

Zelda games attract to hardcore gamers more and thus is more engaging. It is more unique and full on action. Mario is more like playing it with someone or just having fun. Zelda requires a lot of attention and action.
