Forums - PC - Is the 360 to blame for the quick release of L4D 2?

Could be the case actually. Epic didn't release the new maps and content for Unreal Tournament III on the 360, because the package was above the allowed size for a 'patch'. Perhaps this case is a bit similar.

It's a shame though, if it is in fact the case.

there were free updates to paradise city that were in excess of 900 megs? how large  do they have to make one download? could they no have split it up, the 3 free updates i had to paradise city together weighed in at 2.6 gig

though i will say i paradise cities case each update replaced the last i think the most recent one is 986 megs

Well, that only makes it more perplexing then...

As for the Xbox 360, Epic's Steve Polge explained the lack of an update there by pointing out, first, that a lot of the content is already in the 360 build.

"And we couldn't do the mod browser, there's no structure for that on the 360. And the pack is larger than Microsoft's patch limit," he added.

@Rainbird / goddog: EA has a lot of power with console makers. Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is one of the few Wii games in which the servers have their own login / password as opposed to using friend codes.

EA can simply bypass a lot of the rules. That could partly explain the situation with Burnout.

Could be, Though you'd think that Epic (of all the studios out there) would be allowed to do something like this. Unless Microsoft is a hard mistress

Would make sense. Ms Needed some new games and considering sold so well on Xbox 360.

I would say sales had a large part of L4D2 getting the green light for 2010. It's no surprise that FPS sell very well on the 360, and with L4D1 moving over two million units on the 360 alone that's pretty damn huge and hard to ignore if money is to be had. I'm guessing between PC and 360 sales they sold atleast 5 million units combined with Steam.

It's just that simple.

very true ive always been a bit pissed by this, when severs close... one of the promisies of live was MS would be handling the servers  so that crap wouldnt happen pipe dreams i guess

So whats Valve protest about??...this issue right here??

The problem is Valve has promised to support their games for a long time, rather than quickly launching sequel after sequel and forcing people to pay for updates. They're not doing that with the Left 4 Dead franchise.

Maybe... or maybe L4D2 will be different enough to warrant it being a full sequel.

Valve isn't EA, so I trust that they're making the right decision by releasing this as a full sequel.  If my trust is betrayed, then I'll be less likely to spend my $$ with Valve in the future...

Most likely.
