I got the game in August 08.  I've been playing consistently since then.  It was about a month ago I got the 3 star rank and I'm hoping to get 9999 VR in VS sometime soon.

I think one of my biggest problems is a combination of bad luck(I played a game vs. RCTJunkie sometime ago and he even said it was one-sided item wise) and getting out of a routine(When a banana, fake item box, koopa shell, etc is in my way I react fairly poorly because I drift and wheelie often)

;__;

Sounds like the same problem I have but mine is worse.  For some reason I gravitate into items.  I see them early enough but for some reason no matter how wide the track is I just seem to drive into them the harder I try to avoid them.

One thing I have never quite understood is how come when I am doing a wheelie and someone bumps into me my bike comes to an almost complete stop but when I bump someone doing a wheelie they continue on as though nothing happened.

Because whenever you see people doing a wheelie, they're probably not actually doing a wheelie. This is because most Nintendo online games are not using a main server, but peer 2 peer play. Since that's a very unreliable way of hosting, all online gameplay is actually calculated by the Wii's processor instead of it acually displaying what's happening real-time.

In other words, whenever you see somebody do a wheelie, it's your Wii calculating that that person is probably doing a wheelie at the time. This may not be true, or you bump him and the Wii needs to calculate you bumped him, therefore you won't see it happen right away.

Summary: Wii's online is really, really crappy. It's worse than the Doom on PC games back in the 90's.

EDIT: This is why New Super Mario Bros. Wii probably really can't go online, simply because the Wii's processor is not powerful enough to handle it.

Wow sounds terrible.  Hopefully they fix it for Wii 2.  Quite disappointed NSMB Wii is not online and that Brawl's online is so rubbish.

Around the Network

i have only encountered a hacker once about 6 months ago, but i don't play random anymore which is why i am still stuck with about 7990 VR points.

@tuoyo, TWRo0 is right, you was once at my level but now i am stagnating and you have gone to higher level.

i have never found any hacker on Mario Kart, but the simplest to do is to disconnect and find other players

Not when your VR is on the line.

Also my VS VR is a very respectable 9082 now because of a hacker.

The good ones are cool but the bad ones are annoying as hell.

I agree with this.  I'm somewhere in the low 9000's now and because there are relatively few players in Australia i often get matched up with a race full of people ranked 5-6000.  Add a hacker to that race and a single last place (hackers often target the best players) will cost you 400+ VR points.  You can lose them in one minute  and i couldn't tell you how long it takes to get them back.  Disconnecting gives you the same result and since you can occasionally still beat hackers i'd rather try my luck and then look for a new race.

I find the scoring system pretty brutal.  When you are in the 9000s you get like 30 points for winning.  But if things go wrong you can lose up to 400 points.  If a hacker makes you lose in a single race the number of points you earned in like 20 races of outstanding performance it is the most annoying thing ever.
