| kowenicki said: So why does a virtual coffee table with a virtual table lamp cost real money then.... about £3.00? |
Couldn't that argument be applied to any piece of gaming software ? it is all virtual y'know . Just because you can't shoot somethings virtual head off with it doesn't mean it isn't worth buying (not that i'd buy anything in home) but to each his own.
| kowenicki said: @million no thats wrong, its different... You cant use or interact with a virtual coffee table in HOME. Whatever this guy says they are hoping that Home generates money from shit loads of micro transactions. If I furnished the flat properly and bought outfits it could easily equal the LIVE subscription amount.... |
Maybe so, but nobody is forcing you to buy that virtual coffee table, are they? The Home service is completely free if you want it to be. Your experience in there is usually not at all affected by the costs of the extra stuff, as the extra stuff doesn't actually affect anything. OBVIOUSLY they are going to try to make money out of something. Money is what drives everything in this day and age. Stop being so ignorant because it doesn't add anything to the discussion.

Home is getting quite interessting with all the games in it. Quite enjoyable actaully. And it makes Sony a bit of money suposidly keeps PSN free, cant complain.

That is BS...
Companies don't do anything for "the community". That is marketing speak for "suck you in and charge you elsewhere".

Come on it's PR , it's in their job description to say the exact opposite of the truth.
How long would a totaly honest PR representative last in any business of any size ? .... not very long.
All I got to say is go listen to Leigh Alexander who was on Bombcast recently. That woman is crazy but awe inspiring at the same time. She puts it down on the guys about "virtual worlds" http://media.giantbomb.com/podcast/giantbombcast-060309.mp3
And she also literally sent my head spinning when she broke it down about Metal Gear Solid 4 and the "subtext" meaning.

Lol there you go being ignorant again. Unless you honestly know nothing about PR, which I assume you do since you frequent a video game forum and have over 4500 posts here, then you can't honestly be intent on dispproving what a PR man says. We all know what he said was false, so there is and was no point in arguing over it.
Sorry if I'm coming off rude, but I haven't ever seen you post anything positive or, even more sad, anything NOT negative in a PS3 related thread[about the PS3, that is].

Let us have a round of applause for people whining about free software that contains virtual items you never need to purchase!
While we have this opportunity let us whine about MS stating the opposite and telling us about how robust their online service is and every other thing they feed to us when in reality they only want our money!
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Of course it's for community and not for profit because bigger community means bigger userbase and bigger userbase means more potential customers. And naturally more potential customer means more (potential) profits. Although I doubt their true motivation is community, I don't have a very hard time believing this anyway. Community = profit if they do stuff right.
