Forums - Gaming - Media and Press who won E3

Some comment on whys from my point of view.

WM+ and WiiSports Resort were unveiled last year and it comes out in a couple of weeks. This is a definite negative to the Nintendo score. Had they been brand new introductions the value would be signifigantly higher. Also as for WM+ to many in the mainstream and to many people I know they thought they already had this with the Wii.

Metroid - Yes it is different this time with Tecmo, but I was like jeez another Metroid. Yes Sony and MS have sequels to games as well, but they have had a great deal more big releases between them and didnt just announce a 3 pack of the other Metroid games for the Wii just a couple of weeks back.

SMG2 and NSMB - Similiar could have been said about SMG2 and NSMB and it does become even more so the issue with them both being Mario platformers. It doesnt help much that the SMG2 looks just like SMG and NSMB is perceived as mostly a DS port.

Wii Vitality Sensor - Not only people were like whats that for, but i was also wondering (have seen a couple articles that bring this up as well) why attached to the WiiMote. Why not a pulse monitor watch like device that wireless connects to the Wii. Why a wired attachment to the WiiMote.

Also to many (me included) Nintendo and Sony press conferences are actually 4 press conferences because of supporting both portable and console. MS spent nearly 2 nonstop hours showing content and cool stuff for just 1 console. Nintendo spent 1 hour on 2 consoles and still had time for statistics. Sony was in the middle with 1.5 hours of content spread across 2 platforms and had time for statistics.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I don't see why Microsoft should win over either of the other 2, as far as I can tell they didn't actually demonstrate the Natal, only a product vision where "actual functionality may vary". It looked like an ambitious and over-the-top advert. I hope they can pull it off as it looks cool, but that shouldn't win them the show.

Sony showed a lot of games and Nintendo showed some pretty interesting games too, and Wii motion+, which is out very soon is looking a lot better then I thought. In fact they all showed a lot of good exclusives and games.

I'm beginning to think that "winning" E3 just means you've spent the most money on your show to please idiot journalists.

in my asspinoin, they all lost.  What a crappy holiday season.  Looks like my gaming dollars going to upgrading to Windows 7 and back to MMOs or something.

I'm just saying...

E3 has become more of a spectacle and less about boring "look at this demo"

Microsofts conference spanked the other 2 in spectacle, and it had enought substance to go toe to toe with both.

Natal left something to the immagination, which is a big plus. Sony's motion controls will be impressive but you know exactly what they can do and how they work, that is boring.

Nintendo on the other hand bored people with "profits" talk...
"Wii sells more 3rd party software" versus Paul Mcartney and Ringo Star? Err...why is anyone even discussing which conference was better?

All 3 had great stuff this year.

- Nintendo had a new METROID, a new MARIO and several other games
- MSFT had some new stuff and NATAL (with no release date) which I am not really impressed with
- SONY had a lot of games much better than last year or the year before, they also showed their motion control gadget (with release next year I believe) .

I would put Sony ahead of the other two just because Sony had both hardware and Software. An argument can be made for Microsoft as well but there was NO game that microsoft announced that I didn't know about.

Legend of the Guardian and God of War 3 for PS3 and MGS, Assassin's Creed and Resident Evil for PSP trumped most of MSFTs line up (although Mass Effect 2 and Splinter cell look amazing :) )

Gamerace - SE said Fall '10. They said the FF11 team has been working on it for years now. This is the MMO that was revealed a long time ago. I think the code name was FF: Rapture or some crap. You are going to be surprised.

I realize it's been in development for some time.  But the business case for releasing 3 games from the same series in the same year on the same console is very poor.  Even Nintendo is pushing Super Mario Galaxy 2 into 2010 to not steal sales from NSMBWii and there's no question those would both be multi-million sellers anyway.   Similarly MS spaces out their Halo games to maximize sales of each title despite it's massive popularity.

If I was SE (and thankfully for Sony owners I'm not) I'd delay VS and release that around the same time that 360/PC gets FFXIV (and 360 will get it) citing the usual 'PS3 development issues' and drop it in early 2011 instead.   That way each system has two FF titles in 2010 and FFVS could be ported to 360 for when FFXIV goes to PS3 to keep everyone happy and fully maximize profits.

Well yeah, if we're talking about presentation, then Nintendo is clearly deficient in that regard.

I figured that the game media was less shallow than that, though, and would focus on content. Content is how i judge Sony to be narrowly first place, ahead of Nintendo who is roughly equal to Microsoft.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I dont know. To me presentation means a lot for a conference like this, and I don't think im a shallow gamer (whatever that is)

Like Sony looked like they didn't know what thye were doing. Jack Trenton was sweating like crazy, the motion control guys were nervous and shaking, KAz Harai was arrogant and looked like he didnt give a shit...

Nintendo I think had a more composed conference than Sony which was all over the place.

Sony had lots of content, but like I said they screwed up with presentation...For motion controls demo they did, the following analogy works best "if you stick your dick in a pudding, no one is really going to eat it...even if its the best pudding around."

The disrespect for Nintendo is strong.

Nintendo shows off Wii Remote - C
Nintendo shows off Wii Balance Board - C
Nintendo shows off WM+ with possibly best games announcement in a long time - C

Microsoft shows their motion control Natal - A+++++++++++
Sony shows off their motion control with wand thingy - A+++++++++++

That is just crap and their scores are crap. At least try to be fair. Nintendo shows motion controls and everyone laughs and says it is stupid, but then turn around and praise the ground the competitors walk on even though they are late to the game. Even if you want to argue that there aren't many games for the balance board, we have the same exact argument for Microsoft and Sony.

In my mind E3 went like this MS=Nintendo>Sony. Mostly for the following reasons. You can take your pick on who "won" but Ninty and MS both offered a lot of new stuff for gamers. Personally I choose Ninty since I own the console

Microsoft shows off some stuff we didn't know about + new hardware that has lots of vision even if I thought it was too early to show off (lack of gamers games to show the public).

Nintendo demoed their WM+ which is coming out now, plus they announced 2 Wii Marios at the same time. People have been asking for a 2D console mario since Mario 64 came out and they finally delivered. Very solid showing overall with new software. The vitality sensor was weird, but in no way destroys the show.

Sony had only FFIV to announce and that is an MMO which generally is not liked by the FF crowd. Their motion control is also in a hugely primitive state and also has no gamers games to show off to the public. So much stuff was leaked that most of their show was a repeat of things we had already heard. Had they not leaked everything I would probably rank them a lot higher.

PREACH!!!!

Really I had a small amount of respect for the journalistic integratity for game columnist, but the reaction that the gaming media has had over two technologies that AREN'T EVEN GIVEN A FIRM RELEASE DATE, OR GAMESSSSSS?!?!?!?!111//?!!, is horrendous to me.

I want to quote Gamepro for a prime example of bias media.

The "author" listed Wii Motion+ under "The Bad" portion of Nintendo review, "Wii Motion Plus -
With Nintendo's competitors, Sony and Microsoft, revealing their answers to the Wii's motion sensing technology, we have to say that the Wii Motion Plus is the weakest of the three. Controller-less gaming and the PS3's motion controller look more promising than the Motion Plus, which is generically described as something that will "make the game feel and play more realistically." We'll only know which motion sensing technology feels the best once we get our hands on them, though."

Wii Motion+ comes out this month. There are games that will come bundle with it. Unlike the other two tech there are ACTUALLY games that have been preview & hands-on, by the gaming media, GAMEPRO INCLUDED?!?!?!111//?!!!1

...I like the tech that both Sony and Microsoft showed, but neither one is is ready to be used, and to say they "best" Wii Motion+ without games SPECIFICALLY written for them(HELLO THE IMPORTANT PART) then they are just fallacies right now.

I gotta cosign on both you guys. GREAT points. Not to mention... NOBODY mentions Golden Sun. How does one of Nintendo's biggest, unknown announcements get completely overlooked?

I know some people that would eat dick pudding though.... bad analogy.
