Forums - Sony - EyePet... is... cool?

From Joystiq:

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/impressions-eyepet-ps3/2#comments

"It's real, folks. We first learned of EyePet over a year ago, and approached it with both excitement and skepticism. When we had a chance to see EyePet running on PS3 live, we were blown away at how what we originally thought was a concept video had been completely real all along."

"Perhaps it's best summed up with video, as EyePet truly needs to be seen to be understood. You can do so many things with the critter, and his incredibly detailed and lifelike animation makes this "game" all the more believable. For example, you can try sweeping your arm across the bottom of your TV view, and the pet will jump over your arm. When your pet goes to sleep, you can clap loudly and get it to wake up ... (although it might be grumpy!)"

Just got glowing impressions from Joystiq, anyway, which kind of shocked me.  Not sure what I think...  hard to imagine what trying it would feel like -- I don't think they show off the way it works very well in the video, but it is intriguing.

Is it true this is coming out later this year?  Or is that pure rumor?

What do you guys think?  Obviously a gimmick, but gimmick worth 20/40/60 bucks?

The entire 'watching something interact with your hand on a video screen' just seems really weird and unnatural. This isn't going to be a big seller, because the PS Eye is only in a fraction of homes, but it might push the PS Eye into a few more homes, which Sony's gonna need if they want to release their PS Eye based motion controller.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.

Acolyte of Disruption

yes, yes it is cool.

PLAYSTATION®3 is the future.....NOW.......B_E_L_I_E_V_E

hopefully eye pet is the next tamagochi. That will drive sales. And yes it seems to be coming out this year. Heck i might even pick it up. Seems like interesting technology.

I don't see what the differance is between Eyepet and Milo.

It seems to me the whole world are a bunch of fucking perverts, and this virtual boy has turned them all on to tech that they otherwise has seemed to block out.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

@ alic0004

It seems like there will definitely be enough content to warrant a $60 price tag, and since I already have a PS Eye, there is no reason for me to not pick up the game. I really love all the things you can do with it!
I'm definitely hoping they'll stick to the release window they announced at LGC, fall '09

@ KBG29

To be fair, EyePet hasn't been shown to the public before E3, and everyone thought that the trailer from LGC was just a concept video, and not in fact in-game.

This looks really good, cute lil basted.

Eyepet has an advantage over Milo in that one of them is a dude you just talk to instead of, lets say, your friends, and another is a cute animal that does funny stuff...

I'm buying. It's looks pretty cool, I my PSEye needs a workout..
