Forums - Nintendo - what's the Wii's big game(s) for the fall/holiday season?

I don't think Wii Fit Plus or NSMB Wii could possibly fail as much as AC and Wii Music did last year.

Don't kid yourselves: AC Wii and Wii Music are failures by Nintendo standards. No excuses. AC should have been built around new content instead of new features, and sold at least 8 million copies. Wii Music's standard was the other Wii-branded games; Miyamoto laid out Sports, Fit and Music as the core Wii experiences before the system came out.

But anyways... Starting with EA Sports Active, then WSR, WF+, NSMBW and M&S@WO, Wii could have 5 exclusive games that sell 5 million copies this year. I think that's a good haul of "big games."

I couldn't agree more. I'm sure Nintendo will have a great Christmas season, but it will pail in comparison to 2010. If they manage to release MG2, Zelda, and Metroid in the same year, the Wii will probably have its best year to date. In fact,  those three games might be too big to release all in the same year. They might space them out a bit.

They released SMG, SSBB, MKW and Wii Fit in... 7 months? And the last 3 in 3 months. Something like that. So they would certainly release, say, SMG2 in April, Other M in September and Zelda in November. Assuming Zelda will actually be ready in 2010.

They will also have the vitality sensor game next year. So it looks like we are entering a long period with no game drought.

animal crossing selling 8 million in less then a year ?

the gamecube version sold 2.98m in 8 years

the ds version sold 3.95m in the same amount of time the wii version has been

first 27 weeks

gamecube 523,418

ds 3,950,304

wii 3,096,925

Not a big franchise in terms of sales, but in terms of reputation:
The Wii will get Tales of Monkey Island for WiiWare, the new episodic game of the most important classic p&c adventure franchise (and the biggest one outside Myst). Granted, adventure fans are usually PC gamers, so most of the MI fans will get the PC version, but for me it was interesting to hear that this game will be console exclusive on Wii (probably timed exclusive, but interesting nevertheless).

Also: With Dirt 2 and F1 2009 the Wii finally gets interesting 3rd party racers, the long awaited RPG lineup is shaping up with Muramasa/ARF/Fragile, RE/SH/Cursed Mountain/Dead Space for the (survival) horror fans, Virtua Tennis, A Boy and His Blob, Indiana Jones, Spyborgs, Overlord, Red Steel 2, The Conduit, Little King's Story (NA), Tales of Symphonia: DotNW (PAL), future million seller Mario & Sonic's Winter Edition and so on.

I think every Wii owner will find their personal big title(s) in this year's very diverse 3rd party lineup (or in Nintendo's own new games and NPC remakes).

And to answer the TC's question about big fall/holiday titles: Regarding sales, I don't think it can get much bigger than NSMB.Wii, Wii Fit Plus and Wii SR.

8 million lifetime. And check the charts:

http://vgchartz.com/swlaunch.php?reg1=All&game1=Animal+Crossing%3A+Wild+World+-+DS&reg2=All&game2=Animal+Crossing%3A+City+Folk+-+Wii&reg3=All&game3=&weeks=100

At week 7, the Wii version was ahead by 600K. At week 27, it is behind by 900K. So in 5 months, it has lost 1.5m vs. the DS version. Clearly it is not going to sell in the same range as the DS version; well less than half. No point in bringing up Gamecube; it was a failure, and outperforming a failure does not make you a success.

Are the big 1st/2nd party games looks like. Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles I think will sell fairly well too even though I think the game looks meh. Red Steel 2 and Final Fantasy: Crystal Bearers will also do OK third-party wise so will Rabbids Go Home, though Rabbids Go Home probably will be hurt because of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Keep an eye out for Spyborgs, that could be a sleeper hit, the game looks pretty high quality. There's a lot of third party content this fall (Silent Hill looks quite good too).

The Beatles Rockband and DJ Hero, even though not exclusive, are going to be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge on the Wii. I think the Wii will be the no.1 platform for both of those games.

@ Erik Aston

its not going to sell as well as the ds version how ever its doing really well considering its the same game as the gamecube and ds versions.
