gebx said: staticneuron said: That is the point. Ever noticed that there were not any real BR advertisements until after the PS3 was released. Then people said that most PS3 users will not buy blu ray. That was proven false because the next report was that an average 6 or more BR movies were purchased by PS3 owners. Ever since launch the ratio of blu ray to hd vdv movies has been higher for blu ray. In less than three months the year lead that HD-DVD had was erased and now blu ray outsells hd-dvd. This isn't just a short spurt nor a temporary achievment because not only has blu ray outsold dvd the ratio has climbed instead of dropped. The strongest signs are the release schedules HD-DVD: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html Blu Ray: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/releasedates.html Call it hype but I will call it a reality. No Fox and disney aren't backing down. Sales for blu ray top HD-DVD 3 to 1. The release list is nearly 2 to 3 times larger for blu ray and is backed by every motion picture studio in hollywood except for 2. Please tell me how you can see this is a good thing for HD-DVD. See your twisting things too.. Blu Ray sales top HD DVD 3:1 IN JANUARY AND FEBRUARY Total Video sales the two are neck and neck. And where am I saying that's a good thing.. It would be like if I ended this post with..." Please tell me why your a Sony Drone "
200gig BD is due this fall. Blue -ray is already the victor. It has 95% ADOPTION In JAPAN. It would top HD sales in MARCH and onwards too. HD-DVD was released 3 months prior to BD. BD has the most support till date www.bluray.com . BD has much better protection . Storage is the thing to compare : 200gig vs 60 gig (at best) UMD and BD are not the same. UMD was targetted at niche.........was there any standalone UMD players?? NO HD has no support from the big movie moguls except UNIVERSAL. a $299 BD player is going to be released in a couple of months. Even at 1000$ standalone BD players are outselling the 400$ HD-DVD players (20 000 :13000). Ps3 would be the winner in console battle no doubt. The good sign is that most ps3 owners have purchased multiple BD movies. the European BD market gets a boost too on 23rd march. although SONY plans to give 500k CASINO ROYALE copies to the 1st 500k subscribers gamers showed an increasing interest towards purchasing other BD movies in terms of pre-orders.

What about Warner Bros?

due you see what happened at CES. there were no announcements from any studios except UNIVERSAL for HD_DVD. DONT FORGET SONY is the biggest player in HOLLYWOOD at the moment in terms of revenues and releases. BD is targetted at GLOBAL AUDIENCE and i believe the 300$ standalone player and the 200gig disc would ensure its complete victory within a few months from now

I am sure if the NPD numbers on the PS3 just reported hold, some of the big studios are going to question their decision to go BluRay.

For years Laserdisc provided a much clearer (higher definition) image and had much better sound but people stuck with the inferior VHS format ... Regardless of who wins this format war, they will still have an uphill battle to prove to people that they need this format
Comparing UMD to Blu ray doens't make a lick of sense. UMD's have not had the same support for one and second of all UMD'S were and still not meant to tackle "HOME ENTERTAINMENT" Have a umd player for your tv huh? A umd burner? Yea I see the adverts now..... its small! doesn't even mach the resolution of your SD TV and has 1/9th the space of DVD's Logically speaking UMD's were stupid. Any one could tell you that before it even launched and anyone could tell you after it's launch that it would have died because of the prices. Blu ray isn't even a comparison. UMD is just as lame of a comparison as betamax is.

I really didn't think there was need for clarification after I typed "In less than three months the year lead that HD-DVD had was erased and now blu ray outsells hd-dvd. " I would have guessed that people knew that HD-DVD had the lead, hence a higher ratio. I am not concerned with spin and I haven't talked about meaningless comparisons just brought to you "facts" that would make any rational person admit that HD-DVD is at the disadvantage right now. Me twisting your words would be akin to me saying...." Please tell me why your a Microsoft FUD delivering robot "

The comparison wasn't "UMD failed so Blu-Ray will fail" but was more about the initial optimism of a format (in particular a format attached to a gaming console) can be delusional. Many PSP owners probably bought a handful of UMD movies when their PSP was reasonably new because they wanted to try it out; as time went on the novelty of a new format wore off ... The same thing will happen to Blu-Ray and people will not buy movies like The Benchwarmers simply because they have a PS3 which happens to play Blu-Ray movies. (Basically they will be waiting for movies they actually want to own to come out) ... This will lower the dominance of sales that Blu-Ray currently has and sales will become more based on the "Quality" of the movies that are released for a format ...

wow!! i don't believe it.........the trolls deny insanely the pure facts: the blu-ray is smashing hddud.......simply.

dude I thought the very same thing. He also has said, "It looks like washimul was right." and said no one is waiting for Halo 3. hello no one? and said today's new gen is all about the photorealism of games like Lair. Does that sound familiar? Not to mention is name is so similiar is impossible to think otherwise.

But that is the point. There are reasons things fail. There were reasons why UMD's seemed to recieve such support a few months after PSP's launch (like bundling UMD's with movies) but if you really look at the numbers their ratio was low for the amount of PSP's on the market. UMD's had some studio support but no backing like blu ray does. There was no exclusive UMD content and absolutley nothing that justified the price. But I will admit you are right about the Quality of movies I will like to point oout that is part of Blu ray's success and if you look at the release list, it might keep the numbers high. I have purchased BR versions of terminator 2, stargate, Grank, Casino royale, rambo, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and there are many more I have yet to get like sleepy hollow, gone in 60 seconds and many more. Blu ray has way more use and purpose than a throwaway format like UMD. It took me more than a year and a half to purchase 2 UMD movies and I did it only because I was going on a long trip. Limited use, fits into what I am saying very well.
