They should do it Guild Wars style... Sell the core game kinda cheap ($40? $50? It would make a difference...), then in six months release an expansion in stores or DL for $30-40... Six months later, again... You're still paying a "monthly" fee ($5-8) if you're keeping up with the expanding game, but those that want the "F2P" experience just have the core game and a lifetime $40 fee. A cheap game for the PS3 will fly off shelves before people even know what it is.

P2P MMO's also have expansion packs

SOE already does that. For a certain price, you cal play all of their MMO's.

Sony didn't say anything about console exclusive. Sony said it would "ONLY BE ON THE PS3", which is a lie. It's on the PC too, and eventually it'll be on the XBox 360 just like FF XI already is. Console exclusive isn't going to make much of a difference when everyone can simply buy it for the PC. There are more gamers playing the PC version of FF XI, then the PS2 version. Same thing will happen with FF XIV. SquareEnix didn't say if the PS3 version will launch first or if the both version will launch at the same time. When FF XI was launched the PC version came out first.

Well, they did. Go back and watch the Sony conference. He said FF XIV can only be played on the PS3. That's an untrue statement. He didn't even mention that it was an online MMORPG. We had to see the little "Online" pop up under the title. I wonder why he failed to tell us that important piece of information? Of course they didn't say anything about fees as the game is probably over a year away from release.

Uhh... When did I speak a word about Alan Wake or Splinter Cell?
Maybe it not hypocrisy, but DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVING DIFFERENT OPINIONS!?
And a game being console exclusive if it is "only on one console" is the second dumbest thing I heard this week.
I am the only Hungarian forum member here, therefore VGChartz is Hungarian-exclusive. See what I did there?
Exclusive to *something*= everything else is excluded (a.k.a. only on *something*)
PC exclusive= Only on PC. (Starcraft II, Sims 3)
Nintendo exclusive= Only on one or more Nintendo platforms. (Zelda series)
Console exclusive= Only on consoles, and ESPECIALLY NOT ON PC
