Forums - Sales - Sports Resort, MH3, NSMB Wii and Black Wii... End of Japan Wii slump?

How is Monster Hunter arguably bigger than Wii Sports?

Argument: Wii Sports has sold more than every Monster Hunter game, both in Japan and worldwide.

Not much of an argument.

That'd be awsome, but I think that the only kind of software that can possibly take the Wii out of the slump it's Sports Resort. The other ones will only give it some small hw boosts.

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

to say the least.

Hopfully MH will catch on for consoles like it did on Hand-Helds.
But I must say WSR is gonna be there biggest game.

It will certainly pull the Wii out of its current sub 20k slump.

MHP2 and MHP2G sold about 5 million combined, a lot more than Wii Sports. Basically that's a game and an expansion of the same game. I wouldn't say that sales of the Sims or Sims 2 tell the whole story of that series' popularity, when the expansions make up 60 or 70% of the series sales. Wii Sports hasn't even had a sequel yet so there's no point of reference which is why I said "arguably."

So I could make a much better argument that Monster Hunter is more popular than Wii Sports in Japan than I could make an argument that you aren't a high-and-mighty condescending jackass who makes every thread more obnoxious with your presence. Temporary boost.

The first Galaxy didn't really give Wii a boost. I think part of the reason Wii declined in Japan while it took off in America was that Galaxy didn't hit as hard. And Galaxy 2 is a 2010 title anyways.

Not sure why I forgot Wii Fit Plus...

I actually think Monster Hunter and NSMB are the more important games, because there aren't any similar experiences on Wii yet. So theoretically they would have a higher base of new customers to sell to. Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus re-enforce the most popular experiences already on the console, and can satisfy more demanding customers, but don't necesarily open up a big new market segment not already interested in Wii.
