Those are all opinions. Nothing is of truth or fact. Yesterday at the Q&A SE said the subscription fee is still TBA. Even on the site it is still TBA.

I can GURANTEE you SE will charge for this game, they don't do micro-transactions or they will be going against everything they did with FFXI.

On the site:

Unit Price: TBA
Subscription Fee: TBA

Where in anyway does that mean FREE?

but but what about the SE rep that guy spoke? WHAT ABOUT HIM?

How is that an opinion? The official website of the game clearly states the fee for FF XIV is to be announced.

Yes, Square-Enix condemned the selling of in-game items to people using real world money in FFXI. If they go with micro-transactions they become hypocrites. If they want to make ANY money on this game then they would either need micro-transactions or a subsciption fee. Sony/Microsoft aren't going to pay to keep the game up.

Free to play on PS3? aw fuck yeah! that takes care of a big obstacle for me.

F2P equals micro transactions. Want new armor? That'll be $.99. Want a new sword? $2.99 please. Want to buy a mount? $4.99 please.

Either way an MMO is costly, and in this scenario it can get even more costly because the amounts you pay are smaller, but add up quickly and you can lose track of how much you spent.

Also, this is kind of like Home. Free to get in, but customizing anything costs money.

better watchout...darth will report you as a troll for pointing out little facts like these...

Not when there are facts that back up an opinion. There is NOTHING factual about your original post that backs up you personal accessment that F2P will be a detremental route for FFXIV...

"ROFLMAO...yeah, it definitely going to be exclusive then...Sony likes to lose money, so I see another failure in the works. F2P doesn't work...even with micro-transactions. Sony keeps ponying up more requirements on it's servers, and believe me...like I saw when they were giving away ps3 in early 2007...this is going to get them in a hole that they can't dig out of."

Any facts to back up your statemnet that cannot be counter argued by the actual facts that have already been presented?

If F2P works so well...why has SOE moved all of it's game onto that model? And Blizzard reported the cost model for WoW...using that, with Sony trying to maintian...how many F2P projects now...Home, Free Realms, FF 14??? my question is simple...HOW WILL YOU PAY FOR IT?

"Sony likes to lose money, so I see another failure in the works." -That was an uncalled for jab/trolling.

"F2P doesn't work...even with micro-transactions." -Is that a fact, or an opinionate POV to fuel a trolling agenda?

"Sony keeps ponying up more requirements on it's servers..." -So. All MMO games have this requirement. And it's not a bad thing when you have yet to prove that this is bad for SONY.

"and believe me...like I saw when they were giving away ps3 in early 2007..." -What does this two year old action has anything to do with FFXIV??? Does it have anything to do with Wii's and 360's also being given away? Those things happen, too, ya know?

"this is going to get them in a hole that they can't dig out of." -Is this a fact or an assessment? If it's an assessment, could you please provide some facts to back it up? But maybe you have a point. SONY continues to pump out quality 1st and 2nd party games, and 3rd parties are still heavily supporting the PS3 with multi-platform and exclusive offerings. Maybe SONY is in such a financial pickle that it doesn't matter how badly they manage their finances or get more in depth to make more quality games and to continue to attract other developers. Maybe...

Nightsurge had facts that were reasonably agreed upon. Anyone can tell that he wasn't trolling. What about your original post?

;)

Some of my comments were opinions, because I can't believe that a company in the financial state that sony is in, will take on long term operating cost to run a full up MMO for free...I find it astounding...to be perfectly honest.

In early 2007, during the HD-DVD/BRD battle, I thought that the strategy of getting out ps3, even at a loss, would be deterimental to the long-term financial health of Sony...go and look at the balance sheets for Sony during that period, and look at them now...there was a lag ofcourse, and many a fanboy thought...no way...sony had plenty of bread to shell out...well...it didn't work out so well after all.  My point is that maintianing the cost for a Long Term Captial investment like a Full up and round MMO for free will eat heavily into your profit margins.  It's sstrictly my opinons, but I've yet to see it work for a MMO.

Long term effect on products...most of the games releasing today and over the next 8-12 months wwere first invested in YEARS ago...those are the fruits of past expenses...the issue is how much capital do you have to invest in the products at the 20-40% level at this current time.  hat's the deep hole i'm talking about.  So, am I just trolling with comments with no logic behind them...well, the last 2 years speaks for itself.  When Sony start to make ALOT of money off it's current strategy, I'll be the first one to eat my words...I'm never been shy about saying...ooops, my bad, I was completely wrong, but right now, the data doesn't look promising to offer...anyway, I'm done.  I've expressed my opinions, and I'm out.  Fans of this idea can continue to rave about it, but I'll stay with my belief that F2P = fail.  Later...

"...You can't kill ideas with a sword, and you can't sink belief structures with a broadside. You defeat them by making them change..."

To be honest I wish there was a way for SE to have the game free to play. So more people can play, and we can have fun. BUT. Micro-transactions are not the way to do it. They completely kill a game and I would rather pay a subscription fee. It is be B.S. to pay mini-fees to get specific items and i'm glad SE realizes that.

So, if this is free to play is there any reason to expect that this game will not release day and date with the Xbox 360 version in the west? If they are going to the trouble of porting FFXIII to the Xbox 360, then why would they waste some of that good effort by not releasing the Xbox 360 version under the same circumstances?

MMO games are difficult to make, so I can see them again staggering the releases between the different regions. They will probably release in Japan and perfect the game for 6 months or so and then release the game in the west, so use the hardcore market in Japan as like a limited beta before they release the game in the west to people who need to be impressed day one by the game.

Tease.

Yeah I agree, SE luckily isn't that cheap. Unless they'll use a Subscription fee AND microtransactions.

Sony prolly bought timed exclusivity. A few years ago SE said they were woriking on a PS360/ PC MMO. They won't scrap the 360 version to please sony and its fans.
