Funny thing is with the example of NSMB Wii they said it can all be played fully in singleplayer.

I don't really remember getting the memo that online is a must to be core though, thanks for telling me.

If this was a 2d sinlge player Mario...it wouldn't interest me very much at all...been there done that many times.

4 player coop Mario in 2D however...this interest gamer like myself because I've never played something like this.

The thing is that Nintendo Wii only owners don't realize what online gaming means to people that are in the working world. When you are a kid in school  its fine, you can dedicate countless hours of having freinds over and enjoying the games together.

However once you are workign 9 to 5 and have other responsibilities...having a great online console is a way to keep in touch with freinds over the week.

Also, after you spend time playing human oponents in shooters or racers or any other types of competitive games, you can not go back to playing single player in competitive games. I dont even play single player campaigns in new FPS games these days.

All I am saying is that nintendo is completely ignoring gamers like myself and are offering sub par online experience which leads to other shortcomings for the console. Hence the gaming community which is used to this (gamaing sites, hardcore gamers, people that work or have other responsibilities but still enjoy competitive gaming) is goign to bash the wii until they are given experience which works with their needs.

These threads really aren't necessary as its very clear what nintendo needs to do to please those people...

Uhm I work a ton AND go to college and still have time to have friends over to play video games... >_>

But yet again, thanks for telling me that online makes it core, games prior to online being used are all casual crap I'm glad I'm informed now, I can NOT thank you enough.

Its not much of a topic if all you do is reply with sarcasm to people.

There's also another basic mismatch that always goes on between Nintendo and certain categories of gamers and self-proclaimed "journalists", and it's basically an angraphic problem.

On one side Nintendo is great at making some things that they've been making for a long time now.
Franchises such as Mario platformers and Zelda have been updated to 3D or some motion controls or the DS touch controls, but they basically aim at offering a certain well known kind of experience. More recently the same thing has been true for Mario Kart games, the Metroid Prime series or SSBB/Melee/whatever.
The business sense is obvious: in 5 years from now there will always be gamers that will enjoy a great Mario or Zelda game. Every time Nintendo keeps that request niche well fulfilled, and that's an evergreen one.

But some gamers can't live with that because either they've grown up into being sincerely unsatisfied with such offerings, or they are trying to distance themselves from their younger selves. Whatever their psychological motives, they blame Nintendo because it's not following them and they feel betrayed. The knee-jerk reaction is the "kiddie" argument.

The press and critics can get just as bad, because in their case there's an obvious, almost excruciating need for them to see the whole industry emancipated from its 80's image. They suffer of an inferiority complex towards other really mature media, and instead of working hard to make a better gaming critical analysis and commentary happen, they just mainly cater to those demographic of gamers who can be whipped into the same "adulthood frenzy". But we had this discussion about M-rated games and maturity several times yet.

So basically there's nothing the people at Nintendo can really do for this very vocal minority, because deep down they want to be have a scapegoat for their frustration and Nintendo is the ideal one.

Wow, I agree with this so much.

It's not much of a discussion if you ignore all the games that were announced for one game and then bitch and complain that it doesn't suit you for the lack of online and say how that somehow is the reason for all the whining.  One specific case... does not account for all the whining.  There was a much better discussion on the same topic of online previously in the thread anyway >_>

The broader the audience they try to appeal to, the more vocal a minority will hate them.

I'll add another one to this:

The more ways Nintendo find for gamers to play their IPs, the more vocal a minority will hate them.

Stick to what you want to play. I, like millions of others, am very happy with my Wii and DSi. I'm also very happy with my 360.

Also, Nintendo did announce a new IP this E3.

@OP
Nintendo doesn't have to do anything. Just because the smallest voice is being obnoxiosly loud doesn't mean that most people are happy with Nintnedo. Most our. Learn to listen that the people talking are the ones that are few, scared and passionate, once you do that. You learn that they are meaningless to listen too.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

Well the overall sentiment in the thread seems to be Nintendo doesn't have to listen to this small minority and I agree. The main issue I still have is how can gamers whine and complain at what Nintendo showed off and still try to claim to be gamers, just about every genre was covered with a good game in their E3 presentation, it just does not make any logical sense, but then again these people probably already knew they would say the presentation was crap long before it even happened.

What can Sony do to please People?

What can MS do to please people?

We can ask that question to all three consoles, The hate goes around.

Here's my take. It stems from what I saw personally at the conference and is not necessarily speaking for the general dislike people have on here for it.

1. The speakers spend way too much time talking for my tastes. It makes for a boring presentation. Not only did Nintendo do the most talking about general sales material and demographic breakdowns, but they also had the shortest conference of the three.

2. The Vitality Sensor-Where's the software? How about a decent video package explaining it's purpose as an add-on for the Wii? If it isn't integrated into the console, or a piece of software, and Iwata never really made much mention that it would, then why make the thing in the first place? It's seemingly just a piece of equipment we can pick up at stores already. What gives it the Nintendo spin? I felt that whole segment was a huge stain on the presentation, and I didn't see the importance of this thing at all from the way it was presented.

3. Nintendo is taking care of the DS so well. I love them for it. Expanded audience titles, traditionalist titles, old franchises, new franchises. They gives DS owners EVERYTHING. Why can't they do this for the Wii? They seem to have this list of standards for the DS that they do not implement with the Wii. Look at DS. How many games have single card download play? How many have online gameplay? Plenty. So why can't Nintendo put some standards on Wii games also? I don't see how it's unreasonable to expect Nintendo to accomodate both local and online gameplay. Mario Kart does it. So does Smash Bros. If it's appropriate for the title, then Nintendo's motto of "Everyone's Game" should translate to online play. It's 2009 already. Either shit or get off the can, but don't half ass this online thing. I'm not talking about every game either, just the ones with a heavy lean on multiplayer.

Secondly, let's start getting a quantity of different titles out there. Quality is there already. All three "core" titles are probably going to be fantastic. However, shake it up a bit. If Miyamoto was already working on NSMB Wii, maybe team Tokyo should have been doing something other than Galaxy 2. It's not that it's not welcome, both titles are, but so are a lot of other franchises that are getting criminally ignored and one of the two Mario projects could have always been the next project after having something else in between. Considering that we have at least three franchises(Pikmin, Star Fox, F-Zero) that are begging for motion support, and neither Mario title is leaning on motion use very much, why not give us those titles for a true Wii experience?

This is another thing we see on DS and not Wii. There's a steady stream of more upstream titles. They may not sell 10 million copies, but they are welcomed experiences. Nintendo was putting a decent amount of those titles on the Wii in 2007, but they've fallen shorter and shorter, especially in America. I know there are steps to disruption, but Nintendo should realize they do have a large ownership of gamers that are already upstream like they do with the DS, and it would be nice to be thrown a bone or two without having to go through every step until completely upstream games come out.

It just seems Nintendo is able to play the balancing act between downstream and upstream titles (in large quantities no less) on the DS, better than they do on the Wii.

milking: yes its milked like all popular frachises
rehashed: no. mario kart isnt a rehash, neither are any of those games u mentioned, some are spin offs and some are franchises in their own right.
if we only got galaxy, people would want 2D. if we only got maio bros, people would complain its not 3D. this way pleases most people.
golden sun, endless ocean 2 S&P2 are all games outside the big franchises and theres also the new IPs show, span smasher line attack heroes and monada. but those games just get ignored

Mario kart, mario kart 64 and mario kart wii arent rehashes??

punch out  and punch out wii?

i think some one doesnt understand the difference between rehash and sequel.  mario kart wii and punchout wii both took what was in past games and expanded on it
