Forums - Gaming - What does Nintendo have to do to please people?

Nothing, they're already pleasing 50 million consumers, and pleasing record numbers of more consumers each week.

@maxwell

its not that i dont like reallife having doods over (got the controllers for it), its just i work wierd hours and live alone out in the middle of an industrial area here, so its harder for me to get together with friends and family

so itd just be convenient for me i guess

Yeah that's one reason it's a major plus to have.  I guess I stand on the side that says "would love online but not always needed nor needed to be the main focus" cause I'd love NSMB Wii to have online with Wii Speak or something but it's not going to happen but I'm not mad it's not there :P

i still gotta get wii speak, is it any good ?

I like it, only used it for Animal Crossing and to send voice messages to my Wii friends.  If you have other friends with it you can have chat rooms with photo slide shows.  It's nifty but you need others with it to get enjoyment out of it :\

One simple thing.
Earthbound sequel!

I can't debate that point, if I end up at an E3 where they announce a new Earthbound coming to the states I might cry :'(... well even if I wasn't at that E3 I might cry... those games have stories that make me misty eyed and an announcement for a new one would make me so happy ^^

Its the little things that nitnendo sucks at.

Like you just announced a 4 player co-op 2D mario. Thats freekin amazing... until they tell us its local coop only.

http://kotaku.com/5278060/no-online-play-for-new-super-mario-bros

If I have 4 people over at my house...we are most likely watching the game or having a bbq. We are not playing the Wii. So coop is completely useless then...

Nintndo has been cutting corners like this for quite some time. They always screw the hardcore. Punch out is great throwback for old school gamers...however the wii motion controls really blow for that game and they didn't include Wii motion plus support...or online play.

Sega, not nintendo, is supporting the hardcore gamers on the Wii right now...all 5 of them.

So next time before claiming Nintendo is pleasing the hardcore, think about their hardcore offerings and what they are lacking...

lol at the use of the term "hardcore" and "casual."

I've always though the main series of Mario was suited for single player (when I say main series, I don't mean the spinoffs sports games like Mario Strikers, or Mario Kart).  No, Nintendo is supporting the "hardcore," you are just nitpicking what they don't do to please your own needs.

..which what many wii haters do always no matter how polite they talk

Actually its the other way around. Its the nintendo fanboys that settle and pretend they don't need the things that nintendo doesn't bother giving them...

Nintendo can't satisfy one demographic -- males 18-34. This group wants everything for them and everything now. However, Nintendo provides for everyone and the males 18-34 do not like it.

It just seems that Nintendo cannot win since the males 18-34 group includes most Internet posters, gaming TV and web hosts, and game store clerks.

However, Nintendo is leading the sales. Nintendo is making money. And Nintendo is seeing its competitors try to incorporate motion control.

Mike from Morgantown

The best example of how it is impossible to satisfy people came on G4 after Nintendo's presentation. The G4 website person complained about SMG2 coming out next year -- "The engine is done, why are they holding it." Reggie even confirmed they were holding it in his brief interview. The truth is that Nintendo is holding it because it realizes that releasing two Mario games at the same time would cannibalize sales.

It is like reading the threads. If a game has no local multiplayer, people complain. If a game has only local multiplayer, people complain. Sometimes it is the same people. We just need to enjoy the games and relax.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Funny thing is with the example of NSMB Wii they said it can all be played fully in singleplayer.

I don't really remember getting the memo that online is a must to be core though, thanks for telling me.

Whoa that was hard to read...

Uhm ok, even with all the fixing the only thing that was clear to me is that you think a large community focued online platformer is being ripped off by a local co-op platformer with no way to modify levels, no online, has power-ups for characters, and the only thing in common is 4 players... right... so... uhm... how can I dignify this with a response?

language barrier also am busy, mario galaxy is a single player game then they come up with this game that is 2d and is like LBP, isnt that suspicious? why couldnt is has been like mario galaxy with 4 people? or a 2d single player?

Language barrier is not a common sense/logic barrier...  you might not know this but Super Mario 64 on DS had 4 player multiplayer, as well as NSMB on DS, they were competitive modes, now they've just took the same idea from the DS game and expanded it on the console... main line Mario games have almost always had some sort of multiplayer with SM64 and Sunshine being the exceptions.

Nah, is ok i was just throlling for fun, but i run out of silly arguments :P

You realize people actually like to discuss a topic and trolling just distrupts a good discussion... -_-

I know but is so tempting to throw the same argument one has been hearing from day one over and over again, even if it doesnt make any sense,  look this thread for example http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=74946&page=1

If this was a 2d sinlge player Mario...it wouldn't interest me very much at all...been there done that many times.

4 player coop Mario in 2D however...this interest gamer like myself because I've never played something like this.

The thing is that Nintendo Wii only owners don't realize what online gaming means to people that are in the working world. When you are a kid in school  its fine, you can dedicate countless hours of having freinds over and enjoying the games together.

However once you are workign 9 to 5 and have other responsibilities...having a great online console is a way to keep in touch with freinds over the week.

Also, after you spend time playing human oponents in shooters or racers or any other types of competitive games, you can not go back to playing single player in competitive games. I dont even play single player campaigns in new FPS games these days.

All I am saying is that nintendo is completely ignoring gamers like myself and are offering sub par online experience which leads to other shortcomings for the console. Hence the gaming community which is used to this (gamaing sites, hardcore gamers, people that work or have other responsibilities but still enjoy competitive gaming) is goign to bash the wii until they are given experience which works with their needs.

These threads really aren't necessary as its very clear what nintendo needs to do to please those people...

dont make Mario game every 6 mos.?

My take on this.

The rehash argument.

There is a difference between MGS4, Halo 3:ODST, GOW3, etc. and something like Super Mario Galaxy 2.

In general sequels/prequels add to the story and thats what a lot of us want.  The vast majority of Nintendo sequels really arent sequels at all they are the same game redone.   Really nearly all the Mario platformer games tell the same story, just with different obstacles.

Then you look at what else Nintendo is releasing. All these new play control Gamecube games.  This to me is simply trying to cash in with little effort.  They are also releasing a 2.5D Mario game that many in the press that have at first look said is a DS game ported to the Wii. What if MS announced Halo 1 and 2 using the Halo 3 engine for Xbox 360. They would sell like mad, but they better not be the big releases or people would get angry.

Even the surprise partnership with Tecmo was using Metroid. So in the past few weeks we have a bundle of new play control Metroid games from Gamecube era and Metroid from 2 years ago packaged up as a new offering from Nintendo.  Then a big announcment of a new Metroid game co-developed with Tecmo.  I ask couldnt they have done a co-developed game with a new IP or at least an IP that hasnt been done so much over the last few years.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
