So I'm browsing the threads, some sites, and other gaming outlets and I notice a lot of "Woo Sony/MS won E3 and Nintendo sucked!" comments.  When most people asked why those people said "Cause Nintendo only shown sequels and rehashes" when these very same people were the ones going around singing the praises of GTA4, MGS4, RE5, and Fable II.  And it makes me wonder what does Nintendo really have to do to please these people, in all honestly as a gamer, I don't see how any of the conferences let anyone down this year, but to hate on Nintendo specifically is just plain retarded.

Last year there was a lot of whining about Nintendo forgot the core gamers, what did this year to counter it?  Metroid from Team Ninja, 2 pure platformer Mario games, Final Fantasy CC, KH 358, Golden Sun DS, along with a good list of third party games being promoted as well like The Conduit, Resident Evil Dark Side Chronicles, and Dead Space Extraction.  And even then they put in little bits for Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus to have those appeal to everyone games.

So in all honestly I don't really believe there is a single thing Nintendo could do to please these people, not even if all developers went to Nintendo and put their games on the platform someone would take issue with having to buy a Wii, as a gamer purely looking at games how could you be displeased with any showing this year?  Is the Nintendo hate stigma really that strong over the internet?

There is NOTHING Nintendo can do to please these kind of people.

Recognize the reality that some people hate Nintendo for being what they always were: a family-centric videogaming company.

Videogaming consoles were designed around the living room naturally & therefore had to appeal to all members of that living room. All the Wii is doing is continuing and better implementing the original purpose of this medium.

Nintendo's 1st major home console was called the Family Computer...the Famicom. And Nintendo has been trying to make a better version of the Famicom ever since. Wii finally realizes these struggles.

We got sidetracked along the way as "family" got relegated to "kid" & then those kids grew up & became "teens". This is the 1990's when console gaming started to fragment into these cliquey genres that everybody couldn't enjoy. Sega in order to outmarket Nintendo deepened the split with appealing more to teenaged/preteen boys with Sony taking it further to mean teen/young adult males in general. Accidental females were present but the target was young and male. In product and in press. Microsoft reinforced this attitude with those who never remembered what it was like before thinking this current format was the way it always was supposed to be.

Wii brings the female into the established boys club more than ever & this is the backlash. Wii brings so many outsiders that the salespower forces the others to reluctantly follow suit or get left behind in a limited marketplace.

The fact of the matter is this. Nintendo doesn't play that casual/hardcore game. They are doing what they have always done. They try to include as many people as they can into this gaming hobby to make as much money and influence as they possibly can. EVERYBODY. Not just boys. Not just girls. Not just kids. Not just teens. Not just young adults. Not just middle-agers. Not just elders. EVERYBODY.

And everything we see from them is designed with the intent to make this appeal. Some folks don't like that they do this sort of thing & will never be satisfied until what Nintendo represents is out of the business forever. They hated Nintendo last generation & the generation before that. But the irony is that the hobby they like so much could not exist the way it does today if NOT for that company they hate so much.

This is the chafer & they know it. Knowing that what they despise can really not be defeated if this industry is to survive eats an ulcer through their stomachs. So you will only hear futile gripes, bitching, and complaints. That's what powerless people do.

If what they think gaming should be was as successful as they believe, XBox 360 & PS3's titles would sell evergreen on the charts month after month. People would copy their implementations & redesign their console into that image. The Wii would not be the biggest selling home console worldwide month after month. DS wouldn't rule as it does over the PSP.

But it's not. The industry's massive record growth is due to Nintendo. Solely Nintendo.

These kind of people would be better served on the high-end PC game market. Those kind of games are designed to cater to a specific audience. Consoles were always designed to be as broad as possible. Nintendo is trying to break down those genre walls & quit focusing on serving one particular group of people. You don't agree with their decision? You have 2 other competitors waiting for you to vote with your dollar. If what you believe gaming should be is out there, then you better support it. Because a good business will only make what the customer really wants.

While most people laugh at the Wii Vitality Sensor I'm paying close attention because Nintendo has done it again! The complainers will be egg-faced once again like they were for the past 5 years concerning Nintendo.

Nintendo does best when it disregards the unpleaseable & focuses on what can bring them to another level. Even if it's an idea like New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

actually, most of the valid complaints I see are from people still waiting for games from other IPs which haven't received games in a while, Star Fox, Pilotwings, etc. but if we ever get those games, when they are out, it's pretty obvious that there will be no Metroid launching at the same time, which means that it will be Metroid fans complaining then.

the only time you won't see the valid complaints (and by valid complaints I mean those people that don't expect something Nintendo can't deliver) will be when Nintendo launches Mario, Zelda, Metroid, F-zero, etc in the same year.

Funny enough, from the end of 2006 to end of 2007 Nintendo had 2 Marios, a Metroid and a Zelda, as it looks right now it could be that same situation all over again, end of 2009 will be NSMB Wii, 2010 Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, and probably Zelda Wii holiday 2010.  For many media outlets 2007 was the year Wii dominated as far as games go, and most of the time haters couldn't organize well enough to dispute, sales + games + how all those franchises came in the same year.

because most if not all nintendo franchises are from the 80's dude, FROM THE 80's they have like 15 different mario games, mario kart, mario party, mario RPG, luigi's mansion, super mario bros, mario paint, doctor mario, paper mario, mario's missing, mario land, mario world ,mario golf , mario tennis , mario & luigi, mario strikers, mario baseball, mario hoops, mario sunshine and mario galaxy, oh and mario appeared in Donky kong in 1981. Some of this have games sequels, that could make the list do to 25+ and there is also games with mario that dont have mario in the tittle like SSMB and yoshis island.

TALK ABOUT REHASHES!

some of this game dont need mario in the tittle really, but since the name mario sells, they put mario on it, so yes nintendo is milking too much out of mario and not to mention metroid(i love metroid ), zelda( and zelda too), wario and lately wii.

The only innovation in the last has been the wiimote and the casual gamer approach.

Halo is popular but they already killed MC in halo 3, GTA changes the lead character every time and refreshes the gameplay in every sequel, GoW has only 3 games so most current popular franchises are at 5 or less, so nothing cames close to nintendo when it cames to rehashes.

There's also another basic mismatch that always goes on between Nintendo and certain categories of gamers and self-proclaimed "journalists", and it's basically an angraphic problem.

On one side Nintendo is great at making some things that they've been making for a long time now.
Franchises such as Mario platformers and Zelda have been updated to 3D or some motion controls or the DS touch controls, but they basically aim at offering a certain well known kind of experience. More recently the same thing has been true for Mario Kart games, the Metroid Prime series or SSBB/Melee/whatever.
The business sense is obvious: in 5 years from now there will always be gamers that will enjoy a great Mario or Zelda game. Every time Nintendo keeps that request niche well fulfilled, and that's an evergreen one.

But some gamers can't live with that because either they've grown up into being sincerely unsatisfied with such offerings, or they are trying to distance themselves from their younger selves. Whatever their psychological motives, they blame Nintendo because it's not following them and they feel betrayed. The knee-jerk reaction is the "kiddie" argument.

The press and critics can get just as bad, because in their case there's an obvious, almost excruciating need for them to see the whole industry emancipated from its 80's image. They suffer of an inferiority complex towards other really mature media, and instead of working hard to make a better gaming critical analysis and commentary happen, they just mainly cater to those demographic of gamers who can be whipped into the same "adulthood frenzy". But we had this discussion about M-rated games and maturity several times yet.

So basically there's nothing the people at Nintendo can really do for this very vocal minority, because deep down they want to be have a scapegoat for their frustration and Nintendo is the ideal one.

Whoa quite a read I must say, made me think a lot, even about situations in real life, as you stated people without power seem to bitch a lot, and I see that in real life all the time "the man is keeping me down" is a classic line, when in reality there are a million things to do to better yourself.  I never really thought of things that way.  I don't agree with all of it but overall you've made a damn good argument.

(and hey my thread has a reply from the Legendary John Lucas I'm flattered)

People insulting Nintendo shouldn't bother you Maxwell. I mean, to have all those haters, Nintendo's gotta be doing something right. Did we see this much hate for the gamecube? You just have to rise above the insults, and as long as your happy with your console, why should you give a damn what anyone else thinks?

It's about hypocrism, not a mere opinion. Many people complained about the lack of 'core' games. Then Nintendo delivers with a strong showing and it's still not good enough. Off course the marketleader is always hated at some point. For Nintendo this clearly isn't on any real shortcomings but on a set of conditions which can't be achieved. Not surprising in the least. That's just the internet: The place where grown-ups turn into 5 year old children.

See, the problem here is that you use rehash as a word for sequel. Sequels and rehashes aren't the same thing. That's the biggest problem with anti-nintendo folk today.

@ radha
milking: yes its milked like all popular frachises
rehashed: no. mario kart isnt a rehash, neither are any of those games u mentioned, some are spin offs and some are franchises in their own right.
if we only got galaxy, people would want 2D. if we only got maio bros, people would complain its not 3D. this way pleases most people.
golden sun, endless ocean 2 S&P2 are all games outside the big franchises and theres also the new IPs show, span smasher line attack heroes and monada. but those games just get ignored
