Forums - Nintendo - Retro Studios worked closely with Ubisoft on Red Steel 2

A portion of NintendoLife's Interview with Creative Director, Jason VandenBerghe:

NL: With that in mind, did Nintendo give you a lot of support to get to grips with MotionPlus?

JV: Oh yeah, they were great. We got our first MotionPlus a few weeks before it was officially announced, and we were like "now we can do it!". Nintendo were great though, they gave us loads of early libraries for MotionPlus and really gave us a lot of support. In a wider sense we worked very closely with the guys over at Retro Studios, and the producer of Metroid Prime came to work with us and gave us a lot of insight into how they handled things.

Pretty cool.

So now we know why Red Steel 2 looks so good...

That would explain why the game looks closer in quality to Prime than to Imagine Goatz.

Retro is so full of win, it kinda reminds me of Raresoft :(

it seems to me that Ubisoft also carried the skills learned into their other Wii games as well as their latest batch of offerings seem to have some serious polish).

Nintendo should pimp out their services and make Monolith, Retro etc their bitches to help raise the standard of all third party titles out their. Perhaps even offer some form of raised Nintendo seal of quality for companies that have received this kind of support / training from Nintendo.

LOL  This could be a good reason for that tuoyo.

To be fair though, I think that Ubisoft put forth a lot of effort with the first Red Steel and a lot of it's problems were because it was the first game of it's kind for the Wii.  It's good to hear that they asked for help from the team that nailed this sort of gameplay for the sequel.  This is a good sign.

I also like the "look" of it.

Was it IGN that noted in the playthrough that it handles like Metroid? Someone said it but i've watched so many vids and read so many blogs in the last few days that i've forgotten.

No wonder RS2 is so cool. Now about the multiplayer.....THEY NEED TO HAVE IT!

MSG ME AS YOU ADD.

Conversely, this means Retro really knows a lot about WM+ and knowing that we don't know what game they have in the works makes me think Retro is doing some big WM+ game.

hmmmm.

btw, unless major disappointment in reviews, I'm buying RS2.
