Forums - Sales - Could FF14 be PS3's Monster Hunter 2G In Japan (multiplayer abilities)?!

Could FF14 be PS3's "Monster Hunter 2G".....could it be PS3's game that has legs & that makes people play together.

If S-E are hyping it so big, they definetely have some great things planned for it.

FF14 may just be the MMO in japan that starts an MMo market on consoles, considering PS3 has more poeple online than PS2 ever did. As it may jump start a new market, we could see great "legs".

What do you think?!

**"Monster Hunter 2G" = breakthrough/game with loooooong legs/has a multiplayer element

It is quite possible. FFXI was a good game and it definitely was a great start for SE. They can make it big if they do this right.

@zezlar

but when FF11 launched PS2 hardly had people online.

Now its much more likely people wil catch onto it.

Well, someone have data about the PC version of FFXI? It's an MMO and most of the players should be on PC. FFXI even having all the conts should make good profit, at least as much profit as a classic FF do to them decide to realese another MMO. Sales wasn't that good, but monthly subscription compensated.

Another thing, is MMO faster or cheaper to make than a classic game at the same level of production of FF?

nope, you don't know what made MH popular in the first place. It wasn't online play it was playing on the go with friends on a handheld.

@johnsobas

questing with friends online is my point --- THAT is what it could build up

I am not that ignorant

Nah. MH is so big because you play with your friends while being together. Online is completely different.

I do agree that FF XIV will sell more on the PS3 than FF XI did on the PS2, because of better online integration, the fact that you don't have to buy an expensive HDD alongside the game and because this one will be released in Europe.

Yeah but that is not why MH is popular in Japan, online gaming is far less popular in Japan than in the west.  I'm not talking about online, i'm talking about playing with friends on the go and playing wirelessly not online in homes.

@johnsobas

It takes one game as a catalyst to start a new trend.

We'll know in about 5 years (whe it finally launches)

No.

It's an MMO. On a console.

EDIT: As for making MMOs on consoles popular, I think it'll take a little bit more than a sequel to FF13 to do that. Something along the lines of EverQuest 3, or better yet, WoW.
