Yes, but that was all to players who already bought the game! Just like all expansions. Expansions don't cause the expansion of the player base, they only target the current player base. This is a fact.

oh and just so you know txrattlesnake, Halo 3 sold about 7 million releasing September 25th 2007 to December 31st 2007 on a significantly smaller userbase. Unless it turns out Halo: Reach is actually an rts or a game where you play as a pony and frolic through fields picking flowers its highly unlikely you will win this bet.
The definitive evidence that video games turn people into mass murderers
Concurrent users on World of Warcraft did not go up thanks to WotLK or the previous expansion...
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
the last time I heard anything about the number of players on World of Warcraft which was sometime before The Frozen Throne came out was that there were 10 million World of Warcraft players. So, that means that after The Burning Crusade came out at least 2 million more people bought the World of Warcraft.
Halo 3:ODST is different than WoW because you do not need to purchase Halo 3 to play it. This also is the case with the GTA IV:DLC retail pack coming this year.
Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
tx - WoW has only increased by 1-2 million concurrent users since the expansions came out. That's really not a massive increase to the playing base, and would have most likely gone there without the expansions.
Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

You have fun playing with your time, I'm going to go play some games. Serious question, with the recent wave of release date announcements what is the PS3's holiday line up looking like? Besides Uncharted 2, which by the way looks amazing, wha else is coming out? |
I dunno.....A Crack in Time, Demon Souls, MAG, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2...just a few games

What's Demon Souls? I'm not interested in the others, but I keep hearing about that one all of a sudden.

Why are you comparing the sale parameter of a mmo to Halo? And btw congrat on setting impossible goal on a absolutely stupid bet.
Halo 3 is selling above 25k a week, for another 3 million to sell at this rate, you're looking at a little under 3 year. The concept that new buyer of ODST MUST BUY Halo 3 is also illogical, you do not require Halo 3 to play ODST, people usually look towards the latest iteration of a series to buy not its prequal, can you see any other precident where a stand alone expansion revitalised the sale of a game so much that it manage to achieve another 30% of its total sale? How the hell can you tell if 3 million NEW user have bought ODST, where would you even track that?
Did Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty give a 30% boost to R&C:ToD? What about GTA4 DLC with regards to GTA4? Both are standalone game (expansions) for rather successful series, neither achieved your lofty goal, I guess both series are also in decline too?
