Well, I know its graphics aren''t in Killzone's league (or Modern Warfare 2) and its gameplay isn't in Gear's league. I will bet you half my vgchartz dollars that Halo 3 won't sell 3 million additional copies following Halo: ODST's release and the end of the year and the other half that Halo: Reach won't sell over 5 million next year.

You must be a strong dude to move those goalposts around so much.

He said he would bet that ODST would 3 million copies this year. Well, it will probably do that well with people that have already bought Halo 3 since it is an expansion. But the real test would be if it could move 3 million new copies of itself and Halo 3. So, if 3 million new copies of Halo 3 are sold following the release of ODST, I would say it has demonstrated selling power. I've said Halo Reach will only sell half the amount that Halo 3 did i it is a standalone if Reach is an expansion, it shouldn't do any better than ODST. So, if Reach is a standalone, I bet it won't sell over 5 million in 2010 and if it is an expansion like ODST it won't move 3 million new copies of Halo 3.

So expansions are supposed to sell more copies of the original game now? Isn't the whole point of an expansion to sell to the existing userbase, please show me an expansion in the history of gaming that has released and prompted the original game to sell an additional 3 million copies. Your statements show how little you know of game selling trends. The proposed bet it above, take it or leave it.

I've already said my bet. Yeah, the goal of expansions is to be able to grow the original product. See World of Warcraft.

The point of World of Warcraft expansions is to keep players on the treadmill for another year or two while Blizzard siphons away more of their money and their souls.

It doesn't matter what the point is. What matters is that The Frozen Throne and Burning Crusade have both introduced significant amounts of new people to the World of Warcraft. Something that I highly doubt Halo: ODST will do for Halo 3 as the Halo series is losing steam.

The point of an expansion for an mmo is to keep people paying for a monthly subscription. You still have failed to show me a single game that sold over 3 million copies after it released an expansion pack and you won't be able to show me one because your statements are laughable to say the least. Like I said I will take the Halo: Reach bet with you but the fact that you changed the terms of the original bet to such an extreme condition shows how desperate you are. Everyone in this thread sees you for what you are but if you want to turn a blind eye then go right ahead. Also how about we throw in complete sig control for a year to the victor as well. Deal?

So the bet is Halo: Reach will sell 5 million if it is released by September of 2010 ad the winner gets complete sig control for a year as well as half the other users vg dollars (if thats even possible).

The sales  numbers here for The World of Warcraft series don't seem to be accurate as The Frozen Throne and The Burning Crusade are listed as having 0.00 sales while one site I saw said The Burning Crusade sold 2.4 million copies in its first 24 hours.  So I believe that World of Warcraft sold 3 million more copies after Burning Crusade was released.

     Alright, I'll take the bet.

What does an expansion selling 2.4 million have anything to do with the original game selling 3 million, are you confused?

In order to play the expansion you have to have the original game.  Burning Crusade has sold many more than 2.4 million copies.  That was just its first day numbers.

So? You do realise that the game expansion probably sold almost exclusively to people that already owned wow right? How did you come to the conclusion that everyone that bought the expansion bought a copy of the original game to go along with it?
