What does an expansion selling 2.4 million have anything to do with the original game selling 3 million, are you confused?

In order to play the expansion you have to have the original game. Burning Crusade has sold many more than 2.4 million copies. That was just its first day numbers.

So? You do realise that the game expansion probably sold almost exclusively to people that already owned wow right? How did you come to the conclusion that everyone that bought the expansion bought a copy of the original game to go along with it?
