Forums - Gaming - PSP verses 360, which console got more out of E3

Ok, both of these consoles had relatively weak lineups for Christmas and 2010, coming into the show, however, after the show, the lineups for these consoles are generally considered pretty strong(same story with the Wii, to a lesser extent, and everybody already knew the DS and PS3 had strong lineups).

So, both of these consoles got huge amounts of support, all announced at their 1st party press conferences.

Which one benefitted more?

The 360 got a new, serious Halo game(sales, sales, sales), Forza 3, Splinter Cell: Conviction, L4D2, Crackdown 2, a new MGS game, some really great looking XBLA stuff. A real bevy of games were announced for the console, and they definitely sparked interest in gamers and non-fans alike, for the white console.

On the other hand, the PSP managed some really great things as well. A FFVII port, a new MGS game of its own, new Resident Evil game, a new model, with announced pricepoint, and again, a bevy of new games that all look very interesting, and have sparked a lot of attention in the once underappreciated console.

So, it is my opinion that these two consoles were the most adjusted in the show as far as upcoming library, and general interest. Their libraries for the future went from bad to good. They had the most dramatic swings. Someone who might not have had interest in the consoles before, might take a second look now.

Which one was the most dramatic?

I'll give my opinon after I hear others, so as not to sully the OP with it anymore than I already have.

Which console had the largest swing from bad to good, upcoming library. Feel free to mention other consoles, if you think they had bigger swings, and give your reasoning why.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Interesting comparison.

I would say the 360 benifited more then the PSP from E3 in terms of software. The complete revision of hardware for the PSP, in the form of the PSP Go will undoubtably direct a huge level of interest back towards the PSP, but I feel this is offset by the new motion tech MS showed.

So overall, I'd hand that accolade to the 360.

I think if you were to compare the year 2009 as a whole though between the two, the PSP would definitely take it.

PSP.

The PSP Go is going to benefit more from hardware. I can see it easily outselling 360. However, we all know PSP software has a low ceiling in sales potential, and a lot of those 360 games will break past that ceiling easily.

Hardware=PSP Go
Software=360 games

You forgot to add the biggest PSP game... Gran Turismo PSP in October.

For me the PSP lineup is better, Gran Turismo really pushes it over the edge, there are other games that look interesting, but GT is by far the biggest news it could get (other than the PSP Go).

We'll have to see how it does

Well, as far as sales, I'm thinking that a new Halo game, especially one that MS is going to push like they are Reach(it will be Halo 3 level in hype and marketing, and MS are basically going to play it up as Halo 0, and a main numbered game in the series), sales for that software will be astounding.

I think the thing that could push the PSP past the 360 is the Go, and not Gran Turismo. I think that MS matches the PSP in game for game comparisons(and including multiplats, far surpasses it), but the remake of the console is more significant than the motion controls. Plus I think the PSP had a little bit farther to climb, to prove itself, and it did so in style.

I would go with a close race, but PSP by a nose. Sony bascially make the PSP star of their show.

I term of software announced, I think the 360 is ahead, We knew before the conference that the following game will be making a debut:
*Assassin Creed
*Soul Calibur
*Tekken
*Motorstorm
*LBP

The 3 big announcement was GT PSP, new RE and new MGS, along with the hardware revision.

MS had been much more 'shut your mouth' before E3 and the blowout include a new Halo (easily matching GT) and a bevy of new games that have NOT been confirmed before unlike the tide of PSP support at the beginning of the year.

Interesting comparison Zen, and something I've been doing in my head today without realizing it, I think.

I do think that when you actually sum up the sheer number of new PSP games on the near horizon, that you start to realize the PSP has gone from a software wasteland to a must-have system for many overnight.

A quick list (I'm making one anyway to justify my purchase, heh heh):

GT PSP in a few months*
MGS*, main series, written/developed by Kojima (according to him)
Resident Evil PSP*
Final Fantasy Dissidia
Final Fantasy XIII Agito
Parasite Eve
Kingdom Hearts PSP
LittleBigPlanet PSP
Motorstorm: Arctic Edge
Socom Bravo
Soul Caliber
Fat Princess PSP* (stealth announced!)
Echochrono*
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Jak and Daxter
Assasin's Creed, interacts with PS3 version and adds 6 to (doubles?) the number of weapons in the game.* A gimmick, but could be good.
Army of Two
Dante's Inferno
Lunar TSS Remake
FF VII* and 50 other PS1 classics, which would more than double the current US and European PSN store.

* = just announced at E3.

Those are all exclusives, I think -- the bottom few should be different from their console versions, I think? And they aren't possible anywhere but on the *cough* *choke*. God I'm getting tired of that :)

Anyway, while I'm really excited about the 360 lineup, and the big stuff they're dreaming up, wouldn't you agree that the push that's going on with the PSP is unprecedented on that system, while the 360 lineup is pretty much up to par now with what's been delivered in past years.

Now I just have to decide whether I want to get an older one, or the PSP Go... If the Go analog nub actually feels better, as some are saying (contrary to its appearance) then I'll probably go for the Go.

i can only think of crackdown, L4D and halo reach. You cant list some huge franchises like AC, SC, Tekken, MS and LBP as known so they dont count.

Id say RE, MGS and GT would win in a comparison vs CD2, L4D2 and halo reach....maybe not in sales, but in terms of reveals....not to mention the hardware revision.

Overall id say Splinter Cell, Mass Effect 2 even though not part of the conference, Forza, and Alan Wake vs the PSP lineup make it sort of a push...in a list form, then its just personal taste.

I'm not discounting the impact of the game I listed I'm just answering the OP with regards to 'before' and 'after'

Forza 3 for example while we knew was in the making was never officially announced much less dated.

Game officially announced for the 360 include all multiplat title as well remember, so any new 360/PS3 games being announced will also be included, this isn't Sony vs MS this is PSP vs 360, so games like the rebranded Castlevania: Lord of Shadow and MGS Rising counts for the 360, and those software combine have a bigger impact imo.

Nothing against the PSP, its revitalisation is amazing and the lineup for this year absolutely rocks! As one of those people that lined up for my original PSP, I'll be one of the first to get the latest revision.
