Im not gonna say the game will be great or bad but how can u say a failure when have seen a trailer only.

My apologies, I should have elaborated on that. I meant to say that financially FFIX is bound to be a failure that could shorten its life-span considering the fact that it'll be in a small fan base of 22 million.

Definately, cause the PS3 install base will still be 22 million when this game comes out......

BTW it's FFXIV not FFIX

PC and PS3 is enough, though I don't really think this will be a console seller. They are also porting XI to PS3, which doesn't make much sense to me, but....

Online gaming is now classed as "huge".

PS3 has good online gaming capabilities, as do PCs.

It will probably be launching straight off of the success of FF13, maybe v13.

I actually think it will do well why beacuse FF13 will release that year and Vs 13 in Japan and when people found out about 14 they will most likely buy it also.

I would be willing to bet that FFIV is just FFXI+ with many improvements so it makes sense to entice the players with the polished FFXI.

Now lets just hope this isn't like EQ2 because I love me some FFXI.

if online on the ps2 was more friendly it would have done better

I don't think it could do better on any other platform besides PC - 360 online already has monthly fees, making the players less willing to pay seperately for the game. PS2 is slowly dying. PSP is no place for MMORPGs I suppose. PS3... Well, not going to be a huge success on it but at least there's no major hindrance besides userbase (which isn't THAT much less than 360 anyway). Oh, forgot Wii. Well, not a typical MMORPG console.

PC is the home of MMORPGs and I'd be more or less surprised if this didn't end up on PC, too. Not to say this would be a huge success on PC, either.

Oh, and online gaming on consoles was terribly small back then.

the paradigm has changed my friend. I didn't game online at all except halo last generation, and that was because my friend had a xbox live. Most people didn't go online, PS2 owners especially. PS3 gaming is free, and faster cheaper internet speeds are available to the mass market.

For those reasons alone most people that own a ps3 have participated in online gaming. Everyone knows how to connect and in some way enjoy it. By no means will this game be as big as FF 13, but it will be a lot bigger than XI.

Fact: Earthbound is the greatest game ever made

Ugh, it's funny how FF on XBOX was considered a ''Meltdown'' but now that Sony has secured back the exclusivity for the next title in the MAIN franchise, it's now considered to be no big deal.

It doesn't make sense. The game just got announced, stop saying that it will be exactly like XI just because it's online.

I'm not sure what your source is, but it's missing the NA, EU, and PC sales.

Also, I don't think it will be a failure, it will probably do just about as well as FFXI which is good since the game was a success.

I also think it will do the same thing FFXI did and eventually come to the PC and possible 360.

My source was a tad outdated, I found  newer one that includes all territories and all consoles as well as PC alike.

As of 2008, in an announcement for three additional expansions in development, SE noted Final Fantasy XI still has a strong user base of around 500,000 subscribers. [5] As of April 22nd, 2009 there are 2,000,000 active characters. Four expansions for the game have been released, capitalizing on the game's success.

My original thought was that FFXIV will only be PS3 exclusive. If its coming to PC then it does have an oportunity to reach better market, however has it been confirm that is coming to PC also? What will be the requirement since I'm assuming SE is going to use higher graphics which could require higher end PCs. Let's not forget that what made WoW such a huge success was the fact that they made the game PC friendly. They have somewhere around 5 to 10 million subscribers (?!?) and if FFXIV does not become easily accessible this could also lead to a way smaller userbase.

What are you looking at, nerd?
