how about we compare PS2's ONLINE USERBASE to Ps3's ONLINE USERBASE? |
How much of that userbase will be willing to pay a monthly subscription? How much of that userbase would play an MMO opposed to a traditional Japanese RPG? What mmos have been succesful, let alone console mmos? If we are going to include factors the one mentioned by you how about we include all of them.
@Zezlar I doubt FFXIV will have the quality Final Fantasy devs when they are working on XIII(the much better, and more important game). Even Versus a spinoff is more important than this.

sc94597, you are really one dimensional. How does the game industry evolves ? By introducing new ways to play games and to constantly evolve our way of thinking, our way of style. Doom introduced the concept of FPS and Halo brought FPS to consoles when everyone else thought FPS on consoles were a no-go. Nintendo introduced the Wii back at the start of the generation and everyone else thought that it will land 3rd behind the PS3 and Xbox360 with its remote sensing ability. Xbox360 and PS3 introduced the concept of online integration with gaming when everyone else thought it will not pull through.
How about the craze of Monster Hunter in Japan. Did anyone saw that coming ? It is massively huge in Japan with its online co-op and play. Final Fantasy XIV is introducing a new concept - albeit similar to Final Fantasy XI - by launching on the PS3 which is connected straight out the box. This gives it an edge because everybody will have access to play it online. Whereas Final Fantasy XI launched on the PS2 where you need a network adapter and a hard disk to play online. This network adapter and harddisk is not available widely. Common sense tells you this will not work. And people are lazy and are usually not bothered to get so many things just to play Final Fantasy XI online.
You are lagging behind with your one dimensional mindset.
