Forums - Gaming - Who Won E3 2009?

This one is hard to pick.

For consoles only:

Microsoft: Fantastic demos in Splinter Cell and Alan Wake along with Halo ODST, Forza 3 (for this year lol) and Crackdown 2. I'll ignore the 'bombshell' because it wasn't all that. Joyride was pretty cool too, and its free. Left 4 Dead is yet another Valve effort which cannot be ignored. Halo Reach was probably the closest thing to a megaton because noone expected it until the last few days of E3 due to leaks/slipups. Project Natal was absolutely fantastic and so was Milo.

Sony: Mag is totally amazing, will have to see if they can make it accessible but yeah its a definative moment for FPS online on consoles. Uncharted 2 was also fantastic. I was ready to give it to them right there. Final Fantasy XIV, hmm will have to wait n see im not too impressed because MMO = PC for me until proved otherwise. ICO game was pretty arty, not my scene but its an amazing thing anyway and have to give it respect. I liked their Wiitoo type device, but the demonstration felt really hashed together at the last minute. It makes me think that the 2010 release date for spring would be a soft launch if at all. Gran Turismo truely is a mega hit, its pretty big but seeing it likely slip from 2009 is as much a disapointment for me as it is an awesome experience seeing the WRC and Nascar type gameplay modes. Lastly that car racing game was pretty off the hook too. God of War was really cool too, but the unexpected hit for me was that car game! Man... Awesome stuff.

Nintendo: The lack of the Zelda announcement and the release of a pair of Marios isn't good enough compensation. Its a diminishing returns feel. The thing with Nintendo is that because their big announcement was tactile in nature -> Wii M+ its going to take a while to see if it was a bombshell and how much of one at that. Metroid Prime was a pretty big announcement too, but it doesn't feel quite the same, it didn't quite click with me unfortunately. Nintendos pulse device, oh dear... I think I'll leave them aside, because really I simply cannot judge their E3 until I have that cool M+ in my hand.

Games:

Microsoft:

  • Halo: ODST 2009
  • Halo: Reach 2010
  • Alan Wake: Jan 2010
  • Splinter Cell 2009
  • Left 4 Dead 2 2009
  • Joyride 2009
  • Crackdown 2010
  • Forza 3 2009
  • MGS? LOL no way.

Sony:

  • MAG
  • Uncharted 2
  • FFXIV
  • Ico game
  • GT5 (2010???)
  • Kart game? (2009)
  • God of War (2010 Marcb)
  • Agency? But its only a title.

Im leaving Nintendo out because its comparing different games/genres and im not even into Mario. ;_;

On the face of it I will probably give it to Sony marginally. Many of the 360 games aren't different enough, better enough from an equivelent multi-plat. MAG is something im wary of but the concept is totally fantastic and its definately one of the show winners for me and the Kart racing game was so slick and came out of nowhere. Joyride has nothing on it. Microsoft has more great titles but Sony has more special titles. For example Forza 3 is matched by not GT5 but NFS: Shift. In all I would give Sony about an 8.1/10 and Microsoft a 7.4/10.

Handhelds? I think Sony, but their strategy seems a little flawed. Too many core games make me think that its going to saturate their target demographic more. On the whole Sony has me won, but overall effectiveness to the whole spectrum of the market has to go with Nintendo.

Tease.

if you of it as a show, it's tie maybe

if you of it as consoles future for the next year, it's crystal clear that Nintendo wins!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Let me add this was a great way to start e3.

Sony came, Sony saw, Sony conquered. There's no competition whatsoever... they had me at Peace Walker, FF XIV & The Last Guardian were just the icing on the cake.

in my opinion. nitendo crushed both competitors.

nitendo announced games that everybody wanted. and also showed alot on wm+ something alot of people want. also the two mario games for the wii as well as the two on the ds. then they announced the new metroid game developed by team ninja( ).

microsoft showed some awesome games as well as xbox live innovations. showing games that i want for my xbox this year. also the two halo games, and l4d 2(OMG). as well as showing off alot of innovative motion control. plus facebook and twitter. , but no rare

i fell to sleep, during the sony conference, but i saw everything about the ps3. god III and Grand turismo were awesome. and they also announced a new motion control. but they spent
too much time on infamous .

Metroid...Enough said.....

I think you could make a compelling argument for any of the three.

Usually I avoid reading your posts, but this is one I find very reasonable and fair, so I can fully agree with it.  My Squill rating just went from a 0 to a 8.0.  Congratz!! LOL!! However, I do disagree with one point, Forza 3 looks awesome and easily blows Shift out of the water.  Of course, what I saw from GT5 blows Forza 3 out of the water, but you have to give it to Forza, it looks like one hell of a racer.

Squilliam, I do have to say that I have just gained alot of respect for you. Finally someone who is being civil and not raggin on the other console.
