Sky Render, did you send him an e-mail saying he´s no longer the Malstrom you knew (or something like that)?

Yeah, I did. Mostly because he was spending all of his recent posts at the time berating the sorts who buy into viral marketing, ie. a lot of forum-bound gamers. I didn't expect him to post his response to his site instead of e-mailing it back to me, but basically I was just trying to remind him that his site was mainly interesting because of how it put things in perspective, not because of how he got worked up about people not listening to him or spotting what he'd realized ages ago.
Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

He's a rabid Nintendo fanboy/Nintendo knight/anti-HD Cardinal.
All around bad rep for Nintendo fans.

That pretty much sums him up these days.

While I'll admit that he has gotten rather off-subject recently and delved into that dangerous territory of personal opinion outweighing the facts (something many of us are guilty of, I might add), the guy has written some very insightful and surprisingly well-cited articles in the past about Nintendo's strategies being employed.

I am not saying that it currently does, just saying that the only hardware to perform those actions is a camera and a mic. Which the PS Eye has. It would just take someone writing software for it. |
Well, the camera scanned cards and brought them to life on the screens with Eye of Judgment. I'm sure something similar could happen.

The problem with development kits being sent out is that third parties generally aren't interested in carrying the burden to drive hardware sales. That's the job of the first party and third parties hop on board. This means Microsoft themselves have to make the first step and showcase games that are able to sell Natal. Which they didn't. If Microsoft expects that third parties are going to do MS's job to sell the hardware, they are delusional. |
I think the success of the Wii's peripherals and those of games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band has changed everything. Ubisoft is going to release a camera with its execise software, then there's Activision with their skateboard and music periperals. Then you have EA and their success with EA Sports Active. I think you're going to see some third-parties jump on this in the hopes they'll have the next Wii Fit or Wii Sports.
Despite Malstrom's view, there is the feeling that the NATAL won't hit the market it's aiming for-the casuals. Ubisoft announced a motion camera for the Wii, which to the casual gamer, is the same thing, but for the system they know about.
In effect, MS needs to harness the tech for their current market - the hardcore FPS gamer. This will be a tough feat, as these gamers don't want to give up their traditional controller.
