Ninty conference was great, but insulting the opposing fanboys makes you seem even worse

You mean conflicted and shocked. Many MS (and PS3) fans have always set themselves apart from the 'wii' casual movement. This announcement changed al that. Now there is no denying (for them) that MS targets the casuals as much as the Nintendo does.
