Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Natal Fab, Fad or Failure?

Natal LOOKS amazing with video capture and voice recognition,

It could be the next big thing in gaming..

Or it could be another Pseye.

What do you think?

I posted the same comment in the Official Thread but this thread will probably be better for discussing this specifially:

(Reminder PSWii owner) The tech is amazing and MS (and third parties) can probably sell millions of work out games that go way beyond what the Wii can do - making them more appealing to core gaming. The navigating through menus is cool.

What we think of as traditional games, FPS, Shooters, etc. will probably not work quite right BUT new sub-genres can emerge if they design good games for this type of control. I think they will.

BTW, I think RPG and RTS could work quite well with this.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

It seems like a improved motion sensing. More direct competition for the Wii.

It's definitely revolutionary and approchable, but that's about it.

It neither appears to be fun nor convienent and it won't replace the controller for these reasons. The fact of the matter is that pressing a button is easier than swinging your arms around. However, the voice recognition is impressive I could definitely see things being done with this.

We have like 6 threads on this.

It looks like a crossover with EyeToy and Wiimote. Not exactly mindblowing, but voice recognition is very cool.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

one word AMAZING

it not who i am but what i do that defines me. you'll never walk alone you'll never walk alone walk on walk on.

Amazing techdemo, hardly a big thing. Consumers en masse won't like this.

Failure. It fundamentally misses some of the important aspects of motion gaming, the lack of local multiplayer is particularly alarming. Also it looks wonky, the camera capture isnt polished yet at all. It's a great idea..but needs some more years in development.

I also think MS internally lacks the ability/innovation to design stellar apps around it. What they showed was horrible. Splashing paint hap-hazardly around? Really!? 3-d breakout: Flail edition? Its almost as if they dont get gaming.

Voice recognition is cool but I don't have room in front of my TV as its at the end of my bed - plus I'd never play fps's, racing games or RTS games with this - its still not convinced me to get a 360

(PSWii owner)I think there could be another aspect. Imagine a cooperative or competitive game where on person's using a controller to manipulate the environment or control more complex things while the other person uses their body.

This is exciting for gaming and technology in general. It's not going to make me run and buy a 360 (I've always planned on getting another one sooner or later) but this is very positive... too bad Sony-fanboys, Nintendo-fanboys, and all the MS-haters of the world will destroy the idea...
