Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's Next MegaSales Trinity

The Wii Fit/Wii Play/Mario Kart sales still dominate the charts, especially in the weeks without new releases. But total sales for Nintendo's breadwinners are on the long downward slide. What's next: the new big three which I predict will released all before the end of the year.

Wii Sports Resort - no brainer, with the add-on motion sensor & official follow-up to arguably the most successful game of all time it's a guarenteed 10M+ lifetime seller.

Wii Super Mario Brothers (or New Super Bros. 2) - at over 18M in NSMB sales, sidescrolling Mario still has proven unversal appeal. I think Nintendo will go this route because they fear a follow up on the DS will cause unneccesary cannibilization. Plus putting this title on the Wii may give them a decent HW boost in Japan. With head-to-head multiplayer, lots of minigames, & a fresh 2.5D prespective it could very easily outsell Galaxy.

Wii Fit plus - I'm not exactly sure where Nintendo is going with this. My guess is that it's a way for them to get the home exercise crowd to 1) buy new software 2) buy into motion plus. Assuming they're at least slightly successful getting old Wii Fit owners to upgrade & it takes over where Wii Fit left off with new adapters it should also be able to get to 10M lifetime sales.

BTW- Sorry Reggie, these new games won't restore HW sales. Only a price cut will do that.

What is this Drop in hardware I keep hearing about?

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

We don't even know if its a Mario Bros yet. I'm betting on a main Mario game, a direct sequel to Galaxy.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

@Steven It's been within the last two months, at least in NA. And Japan is slow all around.

I think it would be awesome if we got a 3D mario that was like Mario Bros. 3, or Mario 64 running on the Galaxy engine. Bundle it with the wii and it would sell like crazy and move lots of hardware.

Support good third party games on wii. Buy games like house of the dead overkill, de blob, madworld, the conduit and boom blox.

@Mr Khan- Could be a direct Galaxy sequel, and I would bet one eventually comes, but the JPN rumor stated that it was a Mario game that would increase domestic Wii sales, and only a NSMB sequel could do that.

I would like to wager on a return to the core with Starfox, Pilotwings, and F Zero. Then again I just have a gut feeling that the flight stick peripheral rumor just might be true.

Well in Japan at least, Wii sales have been flat so far this year, which isn't much of a surprise considering there's been a lack of major software releases for quite some time, not to mention the state of the world-wide economy.

Even here in America sales have begun to dip a bit... this past week i was in Best Buy... on a WEDNESDAY mind you, and there were still plenty of Wiis just sitting there on the shelves.  I'm sure it'll pick up again once Wii Sports Resort is released, cuz it'll be one of the few games that the casual audience (about 90% of Wii owners) will buy this year.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Wii Sports Resort

Wii Super Mario Bros.

Monster Hunter Tri

Wii Fit Plus

Seems to be their holy quadrant to getting things going again in Japan anyway.

Maybe Kirby Wii and/or Pikmin 3 also sneak in this year. Sin & Punishment 2 as well.

wii series to wii is what the training series is for DS. what is needed now is wii's 'nintendogs' a new miyamoto IP that fully utlises wiis capabillities
