Forums - Sales - Fiscal Report Thread

Nintendo and Sony see their fiscal years conclude on March 31, 2007. It will be interesting to see what they say about how many consoles have been shipped/sold. I think they will announce the following: Sony - Shipped 4.5 million (with those sold to gamers in the parenthesis) Others/Europe - 1 million Shipped, (800,000 Sold) Americas - 2.25 million shipped (1.5 million sold) Japan - 1.25 million shipped (900,000 sold) 3.2 million sold through March 31, 2007 Nintendo - Shipped 6.50 million (with those sold to gamers in the parenthesis) Others/Europe - 1.75 million shipped (1.68 million sold) Americas - 2.5 million shipped (2.37 million sold) Japan - 2.25 million shipped (2.0 million sold) 6.05 million sold through March 31, 2007

Sony will announce that they shipped 5 or 5.5 Million units and never mention how many they sold to end users ...

I dont think that Sony can ship 5m, seems too much. Why does the stores take when they are not selling that much? with 5m shipped there is going to be like 2-2.5m in stores. Sony is going to ship at most 4m. Nintendo is going to ship around 6.5m.

Honestly, I don't think it is about how many systems they can Sell ... Sony will ship as many systems as they can to keep their shareholders happy and to prevent the sales gap between the Wii and the PS3 from looking that large; if Nintendo sold 1.5 times as many units as Sony Shipped AND PS3 systems are readily available while Wii systems are no where to be found the PS3 sales look very bad ...

Quite a bit of truth right there.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

I think Sony will talk about manufactured PS3's which will be above 6 million so that it sounds like they made their 6 mil target, but I doubt that they have shipped that many into retailers, no way.

Sweet... ever so close to the "1 trillion (thousand billion) yen in revenue!" (approx $8.13billion US).

Guys - don't forget that Sony doesn' really care about sales to consumers. They get paid by retailers/wholesalers, so it these shipments/figures that really matter to them. It only matters that, when sales plummet - future shipment orders are likely to be lower.

EDIT: I know Sony *own* a lot of retail stores outright (part of SCE? or something else?), so I wonder how this affects the "shipment" figures. In theory they could just send units from their factory to their retail stores (which they also own, and require no actual ORDERS) to inflate these figures? Hmmm...

Why do you hate Sony so much? It is amazing, really.

You are right though, but neither will Nintendo or MS. You know why? because there's no way they would be able to know how much every store sells. they just care about how much they shipped, to every single company out there, shipping = sold, cause the retailers already payed for the consoles.

The numbers we see every month are not released by the MS, Sony or Nintendo. Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are doing exactly the same thing.
