Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Stranglehold Banned in Germany

What will this mean for titles like Manhunt 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2?

http://www.n4g.com/gaming/News-69613.aspx

- To much violence
- The German version was already cut down
- The text says that only the 360 version is banned right now

Looks like many countries are starting to clamp down and say that the gaming industry has gone too far.

Is it like a new trend or something? Gory game = ban?
OMG!!! Please don't ban No More Heroes or else No More Games Rating Commitees!!!

Germany has always been quick to ban games containing violence. I am hardly surprised at all. I really feel for German gamers, they get screwed way too often.

In a country where Porn is freely accessible on local channels during the day, this is really quite funny. Apparently free access to hardcore is not nearly as bad as paid access to violence.

Stranglehold is far from the violence of many other shooters. If this is the level at which games become banned, the only option for console owners in Germany is the Wii.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Gears of War is banned in Germany as well. It's pretty much a given that Manhunt 2 will be. It looks like they might be getting more strict with their censorship of violent videogames.

The Wii's not going to be much of an option for fans of violence either...I'm sure Manhunt 2 and No More Heroes will get the ban...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Europeans are generally touchy about violence and don't mind nudity or sexuality that much, while Americans are the exact opposite.

I would suppose the European approach makes more sense, although as a responsible adult both annoy the hell out of me.

Yes, I suppose I'd settle for exposing the public to sex rather than violence...but it's a stupid choice...both should be rated and regulated appropriately...meaning allowing for access to nearly everything, but making sure only the appropriate ages can get to them.

no it's not banned .. it just didn't get an age rating ,therefore Microsoft won't let it get released in germany

usually it would get indexed ,if it was released in germany , but indexed games aren't banned .. you can still buy them , but they have to be kept hidden from the customer and it's forbidden to advertise for them

In America, alot of violence can be shown even on public TV.

Once it is 1/3 of a nipple, then all goes to hell...

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
