Here is why EA is focusing *less* on the Wii.

Example 1:
Units Sold Madden 2008
Xbox 360 1,061,416 VS Wii 151,565

Example 2:
Tiger Woods PGA
Xbox 360 143,595 Vs Wii 65,165

Example 3:
Current EA Games in top 25 software sales.

#5 Medal of Honor: Airborne Xbox 360
#8 Skate Xbox 360
#9 Madden Xbox 360
#11 NHL 08 Xbox 360
#13 Madden NFl 08 PS2
#16 Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 XBox 360
#20 Madden NFL 08 PS3 403,347

Face the facts, while the Wii systems are selling crazy well and so are the 1st party software releases. 3rd party software is a different story.

Missing facts:

1. Third party games for the Wii have almost universally been late ports or shit.

2. Madden Wii got much worse reviews than Madden 360.

3. Tiger Woods 07 sold a ton of units on the Wii, relatively, but it was also released less than 6 months ago. That would definitely cut into 08's sales.

This. For some reason I'll never be able to fathom, people expect lazy ports and/or absolute crap to sell as well on the Wii as major graphical and technical upgrades to long-running sports franchises do on the 360 and PS3.

Now, if EA would wise up and upgrade the graphics and tech on whatever slapdash PS2 ports with waggle they're putting on the Wii, and the games STILL didn't sell well, then we might have a case for EA rightfully ignoring the system.

Those are the main reasons. And weren't Madden for 360 advertised like vs Wii version ?

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

What ea sports games are even on the wii? Isn't it only madden and tiger woods?

i can understand why they aren't putting nascar on the wii, but they should put NHL on there at least.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

If Nhl 09 isn't on Wii i'm buying a 360 -.-

The idea that the sales are the root reason for lack of support displays a person's ignorance in this area. Plain and simple EA has failed to produce quality products and that is the root reason.

You simply follow it up the chain from there...

Bad Product -> Low Sales -> Less Support (because they are too stupid to realise its their fault)

If they make a good sports game I WILL buy it. But shitty reviews of every EA game coming out on the Wii and PS3 makes me think that to play fun EA games I have to own a 360..and quite simply a sports game is never going to determine what console I get...sorry but its that simple. I can play offbrand sports games I don't need the players names and the NFL logos, thats an extra, I just like football.

To Each Man, Responsibility

Please do not get my hopes up. I wish EA would really avoid making games for the Wii (and every other console).

When Ea announces a game everyone change into hype mode, Oh MySims looks like a good game, Madden 2008 will get some attention, Boogie is a new IP, MOH multiplayer sounds great, Harry Potter may be a good game this time, bla bla bla. I always expect average/ok games from EA (around 6 or 7 for score). Even so EA surprises me every single time. I expected Boogie to be average it was crap, Harry Potter to be crap it was worst than crap, Madden to be average it was mediocre.

The "3rd parties are ignoring the Wii" argument is only worth a thread when this 3rd party make good games.

The problem with EA is that it has too much of a corporate culture dominating it and it no longer knows how to take chances and be truly fun and creative. Their Boogie and casual Madden games reek of suits in a boardroom looking at charts and market studies and deciding what games to make and how they're going to be made.

In order for them to have any real success on the Wii they're going to have to take real chances and that means allowing their game developers to cut loose and make games they're passionate about instead of churning out new versions of games like they were making business software.

If I was in charge of their casual division I would take six teams and simply tell them to make whatever they wanted to. Take off their shackles and let them brainstorm among each other and their teams to decide what to make rather than a bunch of suits doing it in a boardroom who likely don't have any real creativity. I'm sure most of the people working on games at EA have a passion for gaming and are likely frustrated at what is going on there. I'm willing to bet people would be shocked at how much creativity is being surpressed at EA.

I bought MySims for Wii. Not perfect, but I find it quite enjoyable (much moreso than trying to play the original sims, which frustrated me to no end)

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

I'm starting to wonder why EA Sports has been ignoring the Wii more and more. They only seem to be putting over their "big" sports games and not the others, but the PS2 is still getting the games. Now I know the PS2 has a huge market share and that could be a big reason why, but the costs for a port shouldn't be too great.

I think EA, and probably a lot of other companies have this mentality that a Wii game MUST USE the Wii mote in some way. I think that's a ridiculous notion. :(

Anyone else got any reasons as why some EA Sports game aren't being made on Wii as well? Mainly NHL series. :(

 1)

microsoft money.

It seems fairly odd that people don't see this from EA's perspective.

- The best selling games on the Wii are established Nintendo franchises (Zelda, Mario... etc etc) and previous gen ports (RE4). For a poor quality game like Mario Party 8 to sell very well exemplifies the whole 1st party / party game bias that seems to plague the the wii.

- There is no substantial proven market (given the # of consoles out there) for stand-alone sports games on the Wii. While the Wii Fit will provide some opportunities for innovative sports games, it is resonable to say for the time being there have been no stand-alone 3rd party sports games doing exceptionally well on the Wii.

- Given point 2, for the time being it is resonable to expect that any EA sports titles that end up on the Wii will be ps2 ports. We see this happening with ps3 ports of x360 games. Most games that go x360 ---> ps3 often turn out fairly poorly, usually ranking lower than their x360 counterparts.

people in this thread seem to say "if the game wasn't crap... then i'd buy it" or "if the game didn't suck... it would sell better". if it was that much better, do you think it would push numbers anywhere near xbox 360, ps3 or ps2 numbers? just wondering..

I think MySims will be the real test. This seems to be EA's effort into the Wii, and if it sells well, expect to see some more EA support in the future.
